Mrs. Mattie Ruth Williams Obit (C)

Mrs. Mattie Ruth Williams, age 80, of Summerville, Georgia, 
passed away Monday, October 28, 2014 at the Oak View Nursing 
and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Williams was born in Villanow, Georgia on June 25, 1934,
daughter of the late Charlie B. Goodson and Lucy Mae Anderson 
Goodson.  She was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, the
 VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Quarter Century Club.  Mrs. Williams 
was employed in the Spinning Department at Mt. Vernon Mills.  She
 liked to hunt and spend time with her family.  In addition to her 
parents, Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose
 Dianne Short; brothers and sisters, McGee Goodson, Rebecca Craig, 
Charlotte Woods, Jeanette Greene, Rubin Goodson and Georgia Mae Cochran.

Mrs. Williams is survived by a daughter, Patricia Espy; brother and
sisters-in-law, Herman and Jeannie Goodson, and Joyce Goodson; 
sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Jimmy Hardin; grandchildren, 
Angel Touchstone, Kris Espy Smith and Amy Sneed; great grandchildren,
 Merrick Touchstone,  Tayla Touchstone, Gracey Allmond, Kadin Smith,
 Brantley Smith and Prezleigh Baty, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Williams will be held Thursday, October 30,
2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home 
with Rev. Ken Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow in the West 
Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tony Smith, Josh Allmond, Greg Espy, Stephen Lyons
Kenneth Touchstone, and Cedric Price.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the
 Staff and Residents at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Williams will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family
will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

Mrs. Sarah Jo McWhorter Eller Obit Corrected (M)

Ms. Sarah Jo McWhorter Eller, age 73, of Summerville, GA died Monday, October 27, 2014 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Ms. Eller was born March 3, 1941 in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late Paul Arthur McWhorter and Dorothy Mae Manns McWhorter.  Mrs. Eller was retired

from Herman Miller Company.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death

by her step-father, Walter J. Campbell; step-mother, Nellie Stinett McWhorter; and a brother, Jimmy Campbell.

 

Survivors include a son, Barry C. Barosay; daughter and husband, Charlenne “Tina”

and Edward “Bo” Allmon; brother and sister-in-law, Michael Paul and Kathy

McWhorter; sisters, Paula Jean Marks, Jackie Campbell, and Eydie Mae Rowland;

6 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews; special friends,

Linda Howard, Ruth Guest, Janie Fowler; and an aunt, Elise Elrod.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Mason

Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joel Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in West

Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Barry Barosay, Adam McGuire, Allen Elrod, Jimmy L. Hardin, Shawn Allmond, and Neal Shropshire.

 

Ms. Eller will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends

Mr. Howard “Joe” Price Obit (M)

Mr. Howard “Joe” Price, age 77, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday, October 26, 2014, at his residence.
 
Mr. Price was born August 19, 1937, in Chattoogaville, GA, son of the late Nishious and Hannie McCluskey Price.  He was a member of the Palm Springs A.M.E. Zion Church, and prior to his retirement, he was self-employed in auto care.  He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Alex Johnson; and two brothers, Elmer Price and Charles Price.
 
Mr. Price is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Pierre Price, Kerry and Shirley Price, and Mike Miller; brothers, L.C. Price, Marshall Price, Dan Price, and Roger Price; sisters, Naomi Robbs, Jan Golden, and Betty Ann Price; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
 
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, October 30, 2014, at Mason Funeral Home.

Wanda F. Crowe Obit (M)

Wanda F. Crowe, 68, of Columbus, GA died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend John Burnette and Reverend Robert "Bob" Gober officiating.  Interment will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday in Pennville Alliance Church Cemetery in Summerville, GA.  The family will receive friends Monday, October 27, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 P. M. at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907.

Ms. Crowe was born November 13, 1945 in Tuscaloosa, AL, daughter of Margaret Shigley Crowe of Marietta, GA and the late Charles Crowe.  She retired as a purchasing clerk with Columbus State University.  She was a member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church.  She was devoted to her family and friends and dedicated her life to helping others.

Survivors include her daughter, Kim Haymans of Fortson,GA; mother, Margaret S. Crowe of Marietta, GA; sisters, Evangeline Gober (Bob) of Connelly Springs, NC, Charlotte Chambers (Bob) of Marietta, GA, and Marie Noah (Jack) of Rome, GA;  brother, David Crowe (Nancy) of California; grandson, Trey Haymans of Columbus, GA; great granddaughter, Emily Haymans of Phenix City, AL; former spouse, Jimmy Whitfield of Columbus, GA and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Donald “Donnie” Edward Herod

Mr. Donald “Donnie” Edward Herod, age 74, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday, October 26, 2014, at his residence.
 
Mr. Herod was born August 28, 1940, in Summerville, GA, son of the late John C. and Mildred H. Herod.  He was a member of the West Summerville Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed as a lineman and switchman with G.T.E. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Battles Herod; and a brother, David Herod.
 
Mr. Herod is survived by his wife, Peggy J. Ramey Herod; sons and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Robin Herod, Richie Herod; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Bridgette Hayes, Terry and Carole Ramey; step-daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Britt Evans, Kandy Dodd and Chris Keen; grandchildren, Ethan Herod, Dylan Herod, Buffy Dawson, Brandon Richardson, Cody Hayes, Jayden Hayes, Meg Dodd, and Justin Ramey; and several great-grandchildren.
 
Funeral services for Mr. Herod will be held at 2:00 P.M. Mr. Clarence Robert Sweatman Obit (C)

     Mr. Clarence Robert Sweatman, age 78 of Oak Hill Drive,
Trion, GA passed away October 22, 2014 in Redmond Regional
Medical Center. Mr Sweatman was born January 4, 1936 in Trion,
GA.   Mr. Sweatman was a member of the Saint Barnabas Episcopal
Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and retired
after serving our country for 23 ½ years. He was also retired from
the USPS as a postal clerk. Mr. Sweatman enjoyed metal detecting,
fishing, watching Braves baseball. He was a great guy, best
grandfather in the world. He enjoyed cooking breakfast for
the grandchildren and was the father of the family and looked after
all of his brothers and their families.
    Mr. Sweatman was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Leroy
Sweatman and Ella Juanita Roberts Sweatman; brothers, Orville
Lee “Shorty” Sweatman, Hugh Max Sweatman, Jerry Lamar
Sweatman, and Harold Sweatman.
    Mr. Sweatman is survived by his wife, Muriel Sweatman; daughters,
Hope Sweatman Welch and Dawn Sweatman (Gregory Allen) Clark;
grandchildren, Shaina Hope Clark, Hunter Steven Clark, Tristan McCall
Welch, and Roland Dwight Welch; special friends, Grant Montgomery,

Lee and Wanda Wright; nieces and nephews; special Doctors and Nurses

 who took care of him at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Ja Coby Demarrge Evans Obit (M)

Mr. Ja Coby Demarrge Evans, age 30, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, October 20, 2014 at Floyd Medical Center.

 

Mr. Evans was born December 29, 1983 in Rome, GA, the son of Stacey Dimaggio Evans and Monica Diane Ford. Ja Coby was educated in the Chattooga County School System and graduated in 2005.  He was a member of the Mount Zion Church in Coosa, GA, where he attended regularly.

 

Survivors include his mother, Monica Diane Ford; father, Stacey D. Evans; sister,

Destiny U. Evans; grandparents, Will H. Ford, Mary N. Martin, Alvin D. Evans, and

Mildred Jones; and a nephew, J. A’ Vion Cotton.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Mason Funeral

Home Chapel, with Rev. Charles Dodson officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Zion

Cemetery.

Mr. Melvin Lovett Foster SR. Obit (M)

Mr. Melvin Lovett Foster SR, age 64, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday October 18, 2014 at the home of his mother.

 

Mr. Foster was born July 22, 1950, in Holland, GA, the son of Lurlene Foster Adams and the late Decatur Landrum.   Mr. Foster began his long work history on the family farm of his grandfather, John Foster, in Holland.  His first job was laboring as a brickmason, but his independent nature led him to several personal ventures.  Mr. Foster’s first business was a package store on Highland Avenue.  During this same time, he also worked as a long-haul truck driver for Trend Mills.  Driving a truck allowed him to travel the length of the country numerous times.  The package store eventually became a pool hall, game room, and then disco for the community youth called Teen Times.  As his son, Melvin, Jr., grew of age, they opened an auto clean-up shop at the same Highland Avenue location, which they turned into Tuff’s Auto Sales.  Mr. Foster served local car buyers there until his death.

 

A dedicated community member, he was active for many years in voter registration as a member of the Chattooga County Democratic Party.   He was a lifelong member of the Hwy 27 Church of Christ.  It was at the church’s annual Valentine’s Dinner held at Pop’s Country Buffet where he married his beloved wife, Hattie, on February 11, 2005.  His most passionate hobby was racing.  He began drag racing in his youth and continued racing at various drag strips in Tennessee until the last year of his life.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Wilson.

 

Survivors include his wife, Hattie Ruth James Foster, mother, Lurlene Adams, children, Melvin Foster Jr, &Michelle Broome, Tracey Hines, Tara Foster, Kipp Foster, Chapitre Marsh, Sheral Marsh, step-children, Allison & Scott Montgomery, Chuck & Mandy Noles, Thomas & Manny Brooks, Timothy & Kenya Brooks, sisters, Lorranie Adams, Theresa & Joseph Thomas, brothers, Ronderal Adams, Renderal  & Leanna Adams, Johnny & Gina Adams, Kenneth & Tammy Adams,

A host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
