Mrs. Ola O. Bowling Obit (M)

Mrs. Ola O. Bowling, age 94, of Trion, GA, passed away Sunday January 15,
2012 in the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Bowling was born January 20, 1917, in Randolph County Alabama, the
daughter of the late James Washington Overton and Verna Gilley Overton.
She was retired from Riegel Textile. Mrs. Bowling attended the East Trion
Church of God. She was preceded in death by 6 Brothers, 2 Sisters,
and a daughter-in-law, Gloria Bowling.
Survivors include her children, James L. Bowling, Trion, GA, Marlon P.
and wife, Mary Bowling, LaGrange, GA, Pasty J. Parris, and husband,
Leon Parris, Summerville, GA, Ramona B. Pickle and husband, Malcolm
Pickle, LaFayette, GA, special daughter, Kay Clark, Trion, GA; brothers, J.W.
Overton, and wife, Sue Overton; of Fyffe, AL, 20 Grandchildren, 38 Great-grandchildren,
17 Great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jo Overton,
Fyffe, AL and Hattie Bell Overton, Shreveport, LA; brother-in-law,
J. B. Shelby, Fyffe, AL, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside and interment services will be held at 3:00 p. m. EST on
Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Highway Church of God # 75 Cemetery
in Rainsville, AL. Rev. Andy Hutchins and Rev. Malcolm Pickle will
officiate. Pallbearers will be Grandsons.
Mrs. Bowling will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will
receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. EST on Tuesday, January 17,
2012. She will also lie in state at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. EST
on Wednesday.

Mr. Clyde Day Obit (M)

Mr. Clyde Alfred Day, age 83, of Menlo, Georgia, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehab. Mr. Day was born in Menlo, Georgia on August 9, 1928, son of the late Alfred Day and Annie Myrtle Hammond Day. He was a self-employed used car dealer and a member of the Menlo First Baptist Church. Mr. Day is survived by his wife, Louise Thomas Day, sons, Terry Day, Tim Day, daughter, Christy Camp, brother Gene Day, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services for Mr. Day will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Dempsey and Rev. Larry Elliott officiating. Interment will follow in the Alpine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ralph Willingham, Wayne Powell, Bruce Agee, Tommy Ballard, Bud Willis and Larry Mann. Honorary Pallbearers will be the men’s Sunday School class of the Menlo First Baptist Church. Mr. Jerry Wayne Thornberry Obit (M)

Mr. Jerry Wayne Thornberry, age 52, of Menlo, Georgia, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Thornberry was born in Trion, Georgia on May 25, 1959, son of the late J.P. Thornberry and Jo Hall Thornberry. He was a graduate of Chattooga High School.

Mr. Thornberry is survived by a number of cousins.

Funeral Services for Mr. Thornberry will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Pledger officiating. Interment will follow in the Alpine Cemetery.

Mr. Thornberry will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

Eugene Stoddard Taylor, Jr obit (R)

MR. EUGENE STODDARD TAYLOR, JR., age 83, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012, in the local nursing home. A native of northwest Georgia.

 He was born to the late Eugene Stoddard Taylor, Sr. and the late Adeline Wright Taylor on May 22, 1928. Mr. Taylor was a member of the Presbyterian Church, served in the U.S. Marines during Korea, and was a retired attorney-at-law.

 Surviving are daughter-Elizabeth Taylor Archer of Chattanooga; son-Eugene S. Taylor, III of Atlanta; granddaughter-Hannah Archer; grandson-Jamie Archer. Graveside service will be held Sunday, January 15th, at 2:00 P.M. in the Family lot of Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Mike Penson officiating.

Mrs. Kathleen Maxey Junkins (m)

Mrs. Kathleen Maxey Junkins, age 87, of Trion, GA died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Heritage Health Care in LaFayette, GA. Mrs. Junkins was born January 25, 1924, the daughter of the late Victor C. and Bessie Scoggins Maxey. She was a homemaker and member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Clifford Junkins; grandson, Christopher Paul Warnock; and a brother, Bobby Maxey. Survivors include her daughters, Judi Payton, LaFayette, GA, and Theresa Chastain, Chattanooga, TN; sisters, Faye Cosgrove, Charlotte, NC, and Betty Maxey, Fayetteville, AR; grandchildren, Brian Payton, Dawn Wright, and Heather Chastain; and 9 Great Grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday, January 13, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Tracy A. Bass and Rev. Robert Ward officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Barbara Jean Gronroos Obit M

Mrs. Barbara Jean Gronroos, age 76, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, January
11, 2012 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Gronroos was born May 13, 1935 in San Jose , CA, the daughter of the late
James and Myrtle Toronto Munoz. She was a retired CNA of Home Health. Mrs.
Gronroos attended Horizon Baptist Fellowship. Other than her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband, Olavi Gronroos; and a son, Joseph Madden.
Survivors include her children, Dennis, and wife, Sherryl Broom, Kathy and
husband, Johnny Tomlin, and Sheila Broom; 10 Grandchildren; and
13 Great Grandchildren.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p. m. on
Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home.

Mr. James Harold Ward, age 68, of Summerville, GA died Monday, January 9, 2012 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Ward was born May 22, 1943 in Summerville, GA, the son of the late Paul M. Ward and Rose Ester Ward. He was retired from Barwick Carpet Mill. Mr. Ward was a member of Beersheba Presbyterian Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Ward; and brothers, David Ward and Ralph Ward.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Tucker Ward, stepsons, Paul Daniel and wife, Gail, Bobby Daniel, Gary Daniel and wife, Wendy; brother, Paul M. Ward, JR, and wife, Shelby; 4 step grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Denny officiating. Burial will follow in Garrett Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mike Ward, Justin Ward, Gary Daniel, Paul Daniel, Bobby Daniel, and Joe Daniel. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. James Edwin “Jim Ed” Cavin, age 92 of Gaylesville, passed away Sunday, January 8th in Riverview Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 1 PM (CST) Thursday, January 12th at Friendship Baptist Church in Gaylesville, with Dr. Troy Morrison and Dr. David Cavin officiating; burial will follow in the Cavin Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 until 6 PM (CST) Wednesday. The body will lie in state at the church 1 hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Barbara Bell Cavin Scholarship Fund at Union State Bank, P.O. Box 455, Cedar Bluff, AL 35959.

Survivors include daughters, Rebecca (Billy) Hotalen of Fort Payne and Ellen Jane Cavin of Auburn; grandchildren, Sally Campbell, Bill Hotalen and Jim Hotalen; great grandchildren, Clay Collie, Austin Collie, Cavin Collie, Abby Hotalen, Will Hotalen, Samuel Hotalen and Natalie Hotalen; several nieces & nephews.

Mr. Cavin was a native of Chattooga County, GA, was the youngest of 8 children of the late Fletcher William & Annie Leslie Cavin, a veteran of WWII and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a retired farmer, a member of Friendship Baptist Church, charter member of Menlo Lions Club and was a Melvin Jones Fellow.

Mrs. Faye Smith (B) Obit

Mrs. Faye Smith of Mentone, AL passed away on Sunday afternoon at her home.  She had worked for many years at the Cloudland Trade Center and was a faithful member of Cove Road Baptist Church at Mentone, AL.   Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5 – 8 PM (Alabama Time) at Burt’s Funeral Home in Valley Head with funeral services on Wednesday at 11 AM (Alabama Time) with Rev. Terry Turner officiating.  Interment will be at Bankhead Cemetery at Mentone.

 

Mrs. Mildred Christeen Hunter Obit (M)

Mrs. Mildred Christeen Hunter, age 73, of Summerville, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Hunter was born in Trion, Georgia on August 23, 1938, daughter of the late Milas and Alma Blackmon Hawkins. She retired from Mt. Vernon Mills where she worked in the Weave Shop.

Mrs. Hunter is survived by her husband, James Hunter; son, James Wesley Hunter and his wife, Tracy Johnson; daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Joel Johnson and Tammie and Curtis Haddock; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Christy Timmons, Shannon Timmons, Eddie Timmons, Jr., Josh Timmons, Blake Timmons, Dalton Hunter, Dylon Hunter, Charlie Hunter, Sara Hunter, Logan Johnson, Jasmine Johnson, Laureu Haddock, Joshua Haddock, Therease Johnson, Sabrina Johnson, Crystal Johnson, Skylar Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Matthew Johnson and Sean Johnson.

Memorial Services for Mrs. Hunter will be held Monday, January 9, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Chaplain Alan Fuller officiating.
