Mrs. Joye Marie Miller, age 70, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at
her residence.
Mrs. Miller was born June 1, 1940 in Summerville, GA the daughter of the late Elish
and Minnie Lee Fowler Youngblood. She was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills. Mrs. Miller
was preceded in death by sisters, Christina Carr, Jewel Carver, Annie Koonce, and Cam Reece;
brothers, Dewitt Youngblood and Leonard Youngblood.
Survivors include her children, Glenda Sue Goodson, Deborah Elaine Prince, Sandra Darlene
Hubbard, Tammie Marie Gentry, George E. Miller, Terry D. Miller, and Gary W. Williamson;
brothers, Billy Youngblood and Carlton Lewis; 13 Grandchildren; and 21 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Mason Funeral
Home with Rev. James Slaughter and Rev. Jerry Rutledge officiating. Burial will follow in
Summerville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Abernathy, Ronnie Jackson, Wesley Dawson,
Gene Hampton, Dewayne Treadaway, and James Abernathy.
Mrs. Miller will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from

Mr. Jimmy C. Stricklin SR. Obit

MR. JIMMY C. “BIG JIM” STRICKLIN, SR., age 69, of Wild Life Lake Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday morning, February 24, 2011, in a Rome hospital. Mr. Stricklin was born January 3, 1942 in Savannah, Tennessee, a son of the late Sam C. and Frances Wisdom Stricklin. He was owner and operator of Jim’s Used Cars and was Baptist by faith. Besides his parents, Mr. Stricklin was preceded in death by three brothers- William Dewey Stricklin, Sammy J. Stricklin, Sr. and Grant J. Stricklin.

Surviving are his wife Janice Stricklin, two daughters- Jami Stricklin and Josette Stricklin Radford both of Summerville; Three sons and daughter-in-law- Jimmy C. Stricklin, Jr. of Summerville; Jonathan and Tonya Stricklin of Rock Spring, GA,; and Jason Stricklin of Summerville. Two Sisters- Molly Ragan and Shirley Willingham both of Summerville. One brother and sisters-in-law- James W. & Rachel Stricklin of Leesburg, AL and Peggy A. Stricklin of Summerville. Twenty Six Grandchildren and Three Great-Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be Saturday, February 26, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Rutledge and Rev. Tom Russell officiating, interment in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Active Pallbearers will be Sam Stricklin, Chad Stricklin, Eddy Willingham, Mike Clem, Eddie Bramlett and Earl Bramlett. Honorary Pallbearers will be all used car dealers, Ricky Moore and Aubrey Newton. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Ms. Sherlene Trammel Carroll Obit

 

Mrs. Sherlene Trammell Carroll, age 54, of Lyerly, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at her residence.

Mrs. Carroll was born in Trion, GA on October 12, 1956, daughter of the late Willie Trammell and Ailene Walters Trammell. She had been employed with Wiretech Industries and enjoyed being with and helping raise her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carroll preceded in death by her brothers, Jr. Trammell and Sherman Trammell.

Mrs. Carroll is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeremy Trammell, Summerville, Mark Shane & Kim McGuire, Summerville, and James & Freida Howell, Trion; step-sons, Robbie & Lisa Carroll, Trion, and Lance & Amanda Carroll, Armuchee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray Trammell, Joe and Charlene Trammell, and Ernest and Dale Trammell all of Trion; sister, Evalene Trammell (Eddie Williams); grandchildren, Devon McGuire, Levi McGuire, Dylan Ward, Ashley Howell, Bella Howell, Courtney Trammell, best friends Evelyn & David Ward, nieces & nephews.

Mr. Timothy Dewayne Southerland Obit

Mr. Timothy Dewayne Southerland, age 40, of Lafayette, Georgia, passed away Monday, February 21, 2011 at Erlanger Medical Center.
Mr. Southerland was born in Walker County, GA on June 10, 1970, son of Ralph Timm Southerland and the late Clara Bell Rape Southerland. He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church and was employed in the Packing Department at Mt. Vernon Mills. Mr. Southerland enjoyed fishing, working on cars and always had a great sense of humor.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Ruby Southerland.
Mr. Southerland is survived by his companion of 22 years, Donna Southerland; daughter, Ashley Southerland, Lafayette; step daughter, Crystal Colbert of Dalton; stepson, J.C. Colbert; Chickamauga; father, Ralph Southerland and his fiance, Frances Powell; sisters, Linda Sue Reynolds and Karen Renee Swafford, both of Lafayette; brothers, Robert Brian Southerland and Mark Edward Southerland, both of Trion; ; grandchildren, Jaden Colbert, Naveah Adams, Alyssa Newberry, and Ethan Colbert; mother-in-law, Betty Lively; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Albert Dodd Obit

Mr. Albert Preston Dodd, age 68, of 8 Oreburg Road, NW, Rome, passed away on Sunday evening, February 20, 2011, at a local hospital.

           

Mr. Dodd was born in Summerville, Georgia on August 19, 1942, son of the late Albert Bryant Dodd and the late Margaret Mildred Brooks Dodd.  He was a member of the Northside Church of Christ in Summerville.  Prior to his retirement, Mr. Dodd worked for a number of years in the textile industry retiring from Mohawk.

           

Survivors include his wife, the former Evelyn McBurnett, to whom he was married on June 17, 1976; 2 daughters, Mrs. Christina Blair, Rome, and Ms. Angie Dodd, Summerville; 5 sons, Stephen Dodd, Paul Dodd, Bryant Dodd, Kelly Dodd, and Danny Dodd, all of Summerville; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.

           

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Brown officiating.  Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

           

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 until 8pm.  At other hours they will be at the residence.

Donnie L. “Pops” Cabe, age 60, of Trion, Georgia passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011. He was born in LaFayette on April 22, 1950. Mr. Cabe was an employee with Ball Metal Container, a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Past Master of the Western Masonic Lodge # 91, and former Boy Scout Master of Troop 92.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Robert Louis Cabe, Step-Father, Clifford Ellis.

Survivors include his loving Wife, Reita Cabe of Trion, Mother, Janette Strickland Ellis of LaFayette, Sons and Daughters-in-law, Jeremy Thomas and Lynn Cabe of Rock Spring, Matthew Taylor and Amy Cabe of Trion, Sisters and Brothers-in-law, Susan and Jim Brown, Melissa and Tommy Watson, Brother, Rodney L. Mr. Donnie “Cutter” Milam Obit

Mr. Donnie "Cutter" Milam, age 56, of Armuchee, GA passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Milam was born September 2, 1954 in Rome, GA, the son of the late William Waymon Milam and Dorothy Lee Cargle Milam. He was employed with local UA72. Mr. Milam was a member of Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church and the Freedom Seekers Motorcycle Club.

He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Milam was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Milam; children, Derek and Melissa Milam, Lyerly, GA and Amy and Brian Kittle, Armuchee, GA; sister, Joyce Morris, Armuchee, GA; grandchildren,Dylan Dover and Penelope Milam.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, February 18, 2011 at Little Sand Mtn. Cemetery with Rev. Greg Dean officiating.

Mrs. Elsie Lee Wooten Obit

Mrs. Elsie Lee Terhune Wheeler Wooten, age 73, 0f Cedar Bluff, AL died Monday, February 14, 2011 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Wooten was born March 5, 1937 in Floyd County, GA, the daughter of the late LaDell and Grace Cagle Terhune. She was formerly employed with People Telephone Company. Mrs. Wooten loved traveling with her husband and playing cards with many of her friends, but what she love most was her precious dog, Butch. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Juanita Terhune and a brother, Archie L. Terhune.

She is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Marvin "Bud" Wooten; son Tony Wheeler; Cedar Bluff, AL; stepchildren, Tina Louise and Jonathan Hayes and Marvin "Bud" and Jackie Wooten; step daughter-in-law, Susan Tanner; grandchildren, Chance Wheeler, Kayla Wheeler, Jonathan Wooten, Katie Beth Wooten, Jay Lee Rutherford, and Sam Rutherford; step-granddaughter, A. J. Wooten, great grandchildren, Dawson Allen Wheeler and Brianna Grace Wheeler.

Mr. Evan Deforrest Bowman Obit

MR. EVAN DEFORREST BOWMAN, age 82, of Whitley Drive-Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011, evening at his residence. He was born on October 7, 1928 in Chattooga County, Georgia, a son of the late Robert Loren Bowman, Sr. and Mildred Foye Powell Bowman,. Mr. Bowman enjoyed Golf, played in the Textile League Softball, and for several years coached Little League Baseball. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a Veteran of WW II serving in the U. S. Marines, and was retired District Accounting Supervisor for Georgia Power Company. Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by his brother the late Robert L. Bowman, Jr. on October 9, 2010.

Surviving are His wife Doris Bowman; daughter-Becky Burns of Rome; sons and daughters-in-law-Randy & Kay Bowman and Tim & Suzann Bowman all of Summerville; grandchildren-Kyle Bowman, Haley Bowman, Kelsey Bowman, Jennifer Bowman, Jacob Bowman, & Will Bowman; great grandchildren-Madison Rogers, Talen Carruthers, & Noah Bowman.
