Mr. Willie Charles Davis 47 of Summerville passed away Friday at Floyd medical Center. Funeral services for Mr. Davis are tentatively scheduled for 1pm on Thursday, in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel, Interment will follow in the AMI Cemetery.  Mr. Davis will be in state at mason Funeral Home where the family  will receive friends from 12 noon until the hour of service on Thursday.. At other hours, the family may be contacted at the residence of his mother at 157 Y Street in Summerville… a Complete Obituary will be announced later..

Holland obits

Ms. Lynda Hawkins Holland, age 63, of Mentone, AL, died Saturday, August 23, 2008 t Redmond Regional Medical Center. Ms. Holland was born April 25, 1945 in Missouri, the daughter of the late Sidney and Fannie Downer Hawkins.  She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.  Ms. Holland was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest Hawkins, Clinton Hawkins, and Billy Hawkins;  daughter, Anne Marie Kendrick. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Chad and Andria Kendrick, Richmond Hill, GA, and Cody Holland, Kentucky; sisters, Joyce Allen and Carolyn Flarity, both of Cloudland, GA; grandchildren, Kelsey Kendrick, Tyler Kendrick, Kyle Jamar and Brennan Jamar; and several Nieces and Nephews. Ms. Holland will be in state at Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Monday. Mason Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements for Ms. Lynda Hawkins Holland who passed away on Saturday.

Hendrix Obit

Mr. Frank Lee Hedrix age 93 of Espy Street in Summerville passed away on Thursday morning at his residence.  He was a native of Chattooga County, born to the late Walter Dewitt and Stella Hix Hendrix on August 29, 1914.  He was the oldest memebr of Trion United Methodist Church and was "Front Man" for Jackson Drug Company for 47 years prior to retirement.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years the late Ida Madeline Fulton Hendrix and brothers the late Elmer Hendrix, Robert L. Hendrix and Rev. Charles Hendrix.

Surviving are his sister Annie Hendrix McCary of Summerville; sisters in law mary Ann Hendrix of Trion and Ella Mae Hendrix of Clover, S.C.  Several neices and nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral Services will be held this Sunday at 3 PM from the Trion United Methodist Church with Rev. Art Graves and Rev. Rob Pierce officiating.  Eulogy will be by Mr. James Jackson III.  Intement in the Summerville Cemetery with active pallbearers being:  Johnny Brimmer, Ted Clark, Randy Brinkley, James Snow, Wallace Howell and Sam Jones.  Honorary pallbearers – Mrs. J.B. Woodeard, Mrs. Ressie Howell and the Christian Fellowship Class of the Trion U.M.C.  along with all employees and former employees of Jackson Drug Company.  Visitation will be Saturday from 6 until 8 PM at the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the Trion U.M.C. building fund.

Clayton Obit

Mr. Billy Clayton, age 79, of Summerville, GA., passed away Thursday August 21, 2008, in OakviewNursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mr.. Clayton was born June 15, 1929, in Cleveland, TN., the son of the late James Walter and   Martha Bell Cagle Clayton.  Mr. Clayton was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean War.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Hutchins Clayton. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen W. Clayton, Barry A. and Nancy   Clayton, of Summerville, GA., William S. and Toni Clayton, Kennesaw, GA., Jeffrey W. and Sharon Clayton, Woodstock, GA., 5 Grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday August 23, 2008, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jimmy Weaver officiating. Mr. Clayton will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour on Saturday August 23, 2008. Johnson Obit

Mrs. Lorene Elizabeth Johnson, age 58 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday morning in the local nursing home.  She was born in Titusville, Florida on September 20, 1949 daughter of the late Walter Harvey and Edith Jones Burgess.  Mrs. Johnson was a Baptist by faith and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Larry Jonson, 2 sons – Jackie Parker of Summerville and Leslie Parker of Gaylesville, AL.  Four Grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 112 AM from the graveside at the Johnson Cemetery with Rev. John Mann officiating, visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

Mr. Joseph Daniel "Danny" Smith age 48 passed away in summerville.  Mr. Smith was born in St. Louis , Missouri on June 8th , 1960.  He was employed with IH Services at Mount Vernon and was a Baptist by faith… he was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Ann and his mother, Eloise I. Smith… He is survived by his wife Rhonda Marie Kirk Smith of Summerville…father and step mother, John F. and Wendy Smith of Cedartown, Sons and daughters in law, Jay F. Smith, Gregory d. and Krystal Smith of Summerville and Damon Lee Smith of Chattanooga, and Robert Dale and Samatha Smith of Summerville, Daughters, Laura S. Weaver and Lena M. Master Robert Logan Watson, age 4, of Rome, GA died Sunday, August 17, 2008.   Master Watson was born December 11, 2003, in East Ridge, TN,  the son of Robert and Amanda Lynn Watson.  He was preceded in death by great grandparents, Rev. William Carpenter Obit

Mr. William Gregory Carpenter, age 51, of Menlo. GA., passed away Saturday August 16, 2008, in Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Carpenter was born September 22, 1956, in Trion, GA., the son of the late William (Bill) Carpenter and Martha Wilson Carpenter. He was employed with J.P. Smith Lumber Company, A member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church, was the teacher of the Adult Sunday School Class of Spring Creek Baptist Church, Big Chief of the “Thunder Riders”, and preceded in death by a son, Shawn Harris, and a brother, Rodney Carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Grogan Carpenter, sons and daughter-in-law, Britt and Alania Carpenter, Trion, GA, Zack Carpenter, Menlo, GA., daughters and son-law, Faedra and Jeremy Rogers, Summerville, GA., Jesse Harris, Trion, GA, mother, Martha Wilson Carpenter, Trion, GA., sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Willie Blackmon, Summerville, GA., 8 grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday August 18, 2008, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Derek Hall, and Rev. Billy Dempsey officiating with interment in the Spring Creek Cemetery. Bramlett Obit

Mrs. Lorene Bramlett, age 70, of Wayside Community in Summerville, passed away Friday moring in a Rome hospital. she was born in Marshall County, Alabama on April 20, 1938 to the late John Franklin and Martha Ray Lankford. Mrs. bramlett was a member of Wayside Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a son, the  late Danny Pettyjohn; great grandsons – the late Aaron Hines and Carmon Clark; sisters – the late Bertha Sprayberry, Patsy Lowrance, and Shirley Hampton.

Surviving are her husband, Liborn Bramlett; daughter – Debra Bailey, of Trion; sons – Walter Clark, of laFayette and Allen Clark, of Summerville; sister – Helen Green, of LaFayette; brothers – Tommy Lankford, of Chickamauga, and Bobby Lankford, of LaFayette; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 17th, at 2:00 PM from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastors Joel Smith, Barry Brown, and Jackie Buckhannon officiating, with interment in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Timmy Lankford, Jackie Lankford, Michael Lankford, Jeremy York, Walter Clark, and Cajun Bailey. Knox Obituary

Mr. John Stewart Knox, Jr., age 82, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, August 14, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. Knox was born October 27, 1925 in Chattooga County, GA, the son of the late John Stewart Knox, Sr. and Clara Alexander Knox. He was a member of Beersheba Presbyterian Church and was retired from Velsicol Chemical. Mr. Knox was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Knox, daughter, Margaret Hammond, and sister, Rose Ann Wooten.

Mr. Knox is survived by a daughter, Janice Hutchins; son and daughter-in-law, John S. and Suzanne Knox, III; brother, Fay Maxey; grandchildren, Amy and Jeromie Hartline, Terry Eller, Jr, Amanda & Ben Sellers, and Leslie Knox.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, August 17, 2008 from the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Bayerl officiating. Burial will follow in Alpine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sid Swords, Gene Wesson, Bade Eller, Miles Bagley, Isaiah Bagley,and Mike Hutchins.

Mr. Knox will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Saturday, August 16, 2008. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to Beersheba Presbyterian Church.
