Mrs. Martha Rebecca Cooper, age 87, of 5th Street, Trion passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008 in the LaFayette Health Care. Mrs. Cooper was born December 19, 1920 in Floyd Co. GA. She was retired from Caron Yarns, was also a housewife and a member of the East Trion Church of God. Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her first husband Eugene Smith and by her second husband, Leonard Cooper; parents , William C. and Iowa Collins Childers; daughter, Annie Lee Smith; sisters, May Catherine Childers Mewburn, Anniebell Townsend, and Mary Whitely; brothers Joe Frank Childers and Grover Childers.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty Gene and Johnny Brown of LaFayette; sister, Mildred Dunwoody of Summerville; niece Lovenia "Pidgie" McDaniel of Trion; Nephew, Riley Cooper of Lyerly; 3 grandchildren, Johnny Brown Jr, Barbara Holt, and Joesph Eugene Brown; 4 great grandchildren, Jessica Tasha, David and Kristen; 2 great-great grandchildren, Riley and Evan.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. from the East Trion Church of God with Rev. Charles Izell, Rev Jack Sexton, and Rev Jim Chasteen officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery.
Mrs. Cooper will lie-in-state Monday June 9, 2008 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will recieve friends from 6-8 p.m. Mrs. Cooper will also lie-in-state at the East Trion Church of God from 12-1 p.m. on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Todd Holt, Robbie Osborn, Larry Osborn, Anthony Mitchell, and Matt Turnipseed. They are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 11:30 on Tuesday.

Herman E. Spivey, Jr., age 78, died on Monday, June 9, 2008 after a courageous battle with pneumonia and cancer. He was the son of Havens Taylor Spivey and the late Herman E. Spivey, Sr.
Dr. Spivey is survived by his wife Suzan Nisbet Spivey, daughter Eva Kathryn Bridges, grandson Patrick Taylor Bridges(Rocky Face, GA) son and daughter-in-law Heman E. (Peck) Spivey III and Deborah Ann Spivey; granddaughters Sarah Elizabeth Spivey and Kaylee Marie Spivey(San Antonio, TX.). He is survived by his mother, Haven Taylor Spivey(Summerville, GA). Sister, Margaret Catherine Spivey(Kissinnee, FL) and brother Mark Allen Spivey (Norfolk, VA). He was preceded in death by his brother Dr. H. Olin Spivey of Stillwater OK. Serveral nieces and nephews also survive.
Dr. Spivey practiced medicine in Chattooga Co. for 47 years. He recieved degrees from the Universities of Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Louisville.
He wa a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and American Medical Association. Dr. Spivey was an active Elder of the Summerville Presbyterian Church, and a Korean Conflict veteran.
A Memorial Celebration of the life of Dr. Herman E. Spivey, Jr. will be conducted by Rev. Paul Bayerl and 10 a.m. at the Summerville Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 14, 2008. Visitation in the Fellowship Hall will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Herman Spivey Medical Scholarship Fund, the Summerville Presbyterian Church, the American Cancer Society or your favorite chartiy.

Mrs. Dorothy M. (Dot) Mundy age 81 of Summerville passed away Saturday in a Ft. Oglethorpe health care. She was born in Copperhill, TN. on November 2nd, 1926 a daughter of the late John and Maude Picklesimer Stiles. Mrs. Mundy was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church and was employed by the former McGinnis Drug Store of Summerville , she was preceded in death by her husband the late Homer Mundy and siblings J.B. Stiles, C.L. Stiles, Willis (shorty) Stiles and Namon Stiles..Surviving are daughters & spouses, Brenda and Frank Broome of Port Orange , Fl. and Deborah & Guy B. Miss Day was born September 28, 1947 in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late Leroy and Mildred Thomas Day. She was a member of the Summerville 1st Methodist Church. Miss Day was a retired school teacher, having taught for 25 years in Chattooga County. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and the Georgia Education Association.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Jori Ann Day.
According to her wishes, Miss Day will be cremated and a private service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Leola G. Brown, age 81, of Summerville, GA. passed away Thursday morning in the local nursing home. A native of Savannah, Tennessee, she was born to the late Lawrence and Myrtle Walls Hill on December 26, 1926. Mrs. Brown was a member of The Ridgedale Unity Church of God, was retired from the sewing department of Best Mfg. Company, and was preceded in death by her husband J.T. Brown, a brother Paul Hill and sisters Viola Shubert, Dorothy Faye Davis, Christine Haggard, and Geraldine Taylor.
Surviving are daughters, Judy Tatum of Chatsworth and Peggy Rosson of Lyerly; sons Charles Brown of Summerville and Ricky Brown of Rome; sisters, Molly Jones of LaFayette and Naomi Ray of Chatsworth; brother Joe Hill of Summerville; thirteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Brother Junior Evans and Alton Stamey offiviating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Mrs. King was born September 1, 1926 in Chavies, Alabama, the daughter of the late Horace and Jennie Wooten Tucker. She was a retired dental hygienist and a member of Trion First Baptist Church. Other than her parents, Mrs. King was preceded in death by a brother, Williard Tucker; and a sister, Geneva Conway.
Survivors include her husband, Elwin B. King; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff & Debbie King, LaFayette, GA; grandchildren, Libby King Worthington and Christopher Judson King.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p. m. Thursday, June 5, 2008 from the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Dr. Warren Moorhead officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Hennon King, Christopher King, Mikey Worthington, Dr. James Ware, Daniel Eleam, and Joseph Eleam. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Gertrude Pledger Sunday School Class of Trion First Baptist Church.

Mr. James Bryant (Shorty) Bailey, age 91 of Scoggins Street in Summerville passed away Tuesday June 3 at his residnece. He was born February 23, 1917 in Athens, Alabama a son of the late Addison Delap Bailey. Mr. Bailey attended the Berryton Church of God, was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater and was a used car dealer. He was preceded in death by 11 sisters and brothers and a grandson the late Mark Price.
Surving are his wife Mary Evelyn Dover Bailey; son and daughter in law Jimmy and Linda Bailey of Lyerly; daughters Glenda Farrow, Jane and son in law Steve Love of Summerville, along with Patty and John Jennings of Gayelsville, AL. Marsha Noles of Lafayette, and Cheri Beene of Rome. Brother Mason Bailey of Lima, Ohio; 7 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren; several neices and nephews survive.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday June 5th at 11 AM from the JD Hill Memorial Chapel of the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Clergymen Tom Russell and Gleason Maxwell officiating.
