Mr. Alan Ladon “Red Puppy” Mason Obit (M)

Mr. Alan Ladon “Red Puppy” Mason, age 56, of Summerville, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Mason was born in Trion, GA on February 5, 1956, son of the late Jude Mason and Katherine Mason.  He was employed with Superior Mechanicals and was of the Baptist Faith.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Mason was preceded in death by a son, Matthew L. Mason, and a brother, Steven M. Mason.

Mr. Mason is survived by his wife, Brenda Brown Mason of Summerville; son, Mark A. Mason of Summerville; stepchildren, Philip and Robin Watts of Gaylesville, John B. and Wanda Brown of Trion, Eric J. Lesperance of Atlanta; and Amanda Broady of Bend Oregon; sisters, Mary Ann Mason of Lyerly and Judith Mason of Rome; 8 Grandchildren and a number of friends he worked with at Superior Mechanicals.

Mr. Mason will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 4 until 6 P.M.

Following his visitation, Mr. Mason will be cremated and no formal services are planned at this time.

Mrs. Betty Johnson Brooks

Mrs. Betty Johnson Brooks, age 81 of Chickamauga, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013. Bettywas a resident of Chickamauga and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church since 1952. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother and sister who will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Arnold Johnson; second husband, John W. Brooks; daughter, Paula Carter; and sisters, Maxine Gillilan, Lorraine Ashworth and Frances Morgan.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Pam (Lamar) Thomas of Chattanooga and Karen Johnson of Hixson; brother, Rev. James Braddy of Trion; grandchildren Kimberlee Carter, Jared (Mandi) Powell and Corey Jewell; great granddaughters, Emma Powell and Chloe Teague; sisters-in-law, Virginia Barkley of Summerville and Elizabeth Johnson of Chickamauga; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2013 in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Lee Griggs and Rev. Reed Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and prior to the service on Monday. Mr. Michael Gary Dillard (M)

Mr. Michael Gary Dillard, age 64, of Summerville, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 at a Birmingham Hospital.
 
Mr. Dillard was born in Trion, Georgia on April 6, 1948, son of the late Burl Dillard and Mary Adams Dillard.  He was employed with Julie Industries as a Technical Director, was a member of the Four Mile Baptist Church, the Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce, the Chattooga Tourism Committee and was on the Board of Directors for the Pinhoti Trail Association.  Mr. Dillard was an avid cyclist and loved to hike.
 
Mr. Dillard is survived by his wife, Kathy Reynolds Dillard; sons and daughter-in-law, Britt Dillard, and Brad and Amber Dillard; six grandchildren, Riley Dillard, Braden Dillard, Katie Dillard, Chad Dillard, Tyler Dillard and Josh Dillard; 2 great grandchildren, Audrey Dillard and Rylan Dillard; and a number of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
 
Funeral Services for Mr. Dillard will be held Monday, January 21, 2013 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Doyle Kelley, Rev. Sanford Deberry and Rev. Tommy Littleton officiating.  Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.
 
Pallbearers will be Carmen Caldwell, Neal Bowers, Tim Reynolds, and his grandsons, Chad Dillard, Tyler Dillard, and Josh Dillard.  Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Four Mile Baptist Church.
 
Mr. Dillard will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

Mr.John Ervin England III Obit (M)

 Mr. John Ervin England, III, age 41, of Summerville, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mr. England was born in Summerville, Georgia on June 1, 1972, son of John Ervin England, Jr. and the late Ruby Savage England.  He was employed in the construction industry and was of the Baptist Faith. 

Mr. England is survived by a son, Jonathan Dexter “Lake” England; father, John E. England, Jr.;  and sisters, Teresa Wood and Jennie Love.

Mr. England will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 6 until 8 P.M.

MRS. COZETTE SARALENE POLLARD RITTENBERRY OBIT (Willis)

MRS. COZETTE SARALENE POLLARD RITTENBERRY, – AGE 82,- Of Summerville, GA. passed away Tuesday, January 15,2013 at Alexian Village Health Carein Signal Mountain, Tennessee.  She

was retired from Chattooga County School System and was a member of West Fifth Street Church Of Christ.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Samuel Pollard and Mrs. Susie Ludy Pollard.

 

Survivors are son, Gwynne (Barbara) Rittenberry of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two daughters, Gwendolyn (Edwin) Smith of Chattanooga and Beverly Rittenberry of Summerville, Georgia; Larry Cunninghm of Cartersville, Georgia; grandsons, Bradley Rittenberry of Cleveland, Tennessee, Jay (Shannii) Cunningham of Chattanooga, Sean (Lynn) Cunningham of Cartersville, and Nicolas(Rena) Cunningham of Chattanooga; twelve great grandchildren; sisters, Ellen P. Nobel of Chicago, Illinois, Charlotte P. (Amos) Perry of Summerville, Betty P. Benson of Chattanooga, Susan P. (Elliott) Wills of Chicago, and Veronica Pollard of Summerville; brother, Sterling F. Pollard of Kennesaw, Georgia; a host of nieces,

Mr. Leonard Wilson Sprayberry

Mr. Leonard Wilson Sprayberry, age 94, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Calhoun Health Care Center. 

Mr. Sprayberry was born in Trion, Georgia on January 10, 1919, son of the late Virgil L. Sprayberry and Tinney Day Sprayberry. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Marine Corps during the invasion of the Pacific Island of Iwo Jima. Prior to his retirement, he was employed in the Construction Industry in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area. Mr. Sprayberry was a member of the Experimental Air Craft Association and enjoyed Restoring airplanes and anything that pertained to aviation. He liked being outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Sprayberry was preceded in death by his first wife, Zula Mae Headrick Sprayberry; second wife, Maggie Lou Brown Sprayberry; his only son, Jerry Randall Sprayberry; sisters, Mary Nelson, Lillian Parham and Beadie Hogue; brothers, Ray Sprayberry and Sammie Lee Sprayberry.

Mr. Sprayberry is survived by his grandchildren and their spouses, Shari Ann and Dennis Rodriguez, Stan Lamar and Lynn Sprayberry and Cynthia Lynn Sprayberry; three great grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Sprayberry, Jessica (Douglas) Maruzzella and Khristina (Ralph) Elswick; 3 great great grandchildren, Cameron Maruzella, Caleb Maruzella, and Summer Elswick; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Sprayberry will be held Monday, January 21, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Pastor John P. Rossing officiating. Interment will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. The Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard will render Full Military Honors.

Pallbearers will be Sonny Dillard, Woodrow Long, David Parham, Don Sprayberry, Reggie Sprayberry and Stan Sprayberry.

Mr. Harold Eugene Swinford Obit (M)

Mr. Harold Eugene Swinford, age 65, of Chatsworth, GA, passed away Wednesday January 16, 2013 in Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Swinford was born March 1, 1947, in Rome, GA, the son of the late Herbert and Frances Pittard Swinford. He was a retired textile worker.

Survivors include his wife, Bettie Waters Swinford, children, Gary Swinford, Wayne Martin, Joy Martin, all of Chatsworth, GA, step-daughters, Betty Cunningham, Amanda Dean, Alicia Martin of Alabama, sister, Theresa Murray, Rome, GA, brothers, Maxwell Swinford, and Greg Swinford, both of Summerville, GA, 3 grandchildren, Alision Rogers, Dale Swinford, Mark Martin, and 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday January 18, 2013 at the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Bro. Ricky Studdard officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers, Marion Swinford, Joshua Swinford, Jonathan Swinford, Brent Murray, Drew Murray, Mather Swinford, Honorary pallbearer will be Alan Rogers.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Mr. Leon Teems Obit (M)

Mr. Leon Teems, age 76, of Summerville, GA died Monday, January 14, 2013 at

Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mr. Teems was born May 26, 1936 in Summerville, GA, the son of the late

Buster and Mary Elem Teems.  He was retired from Miller Lumber Company.

Mr. Teems was a member of the American Legion.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in Korea.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sondra Carole Dewey Teems; a daughter, Michele Wartzfield; grandchildren, Myles Teems and Dustin Teems Wood; brother,  Junior Teems; sisters, Jewell Roach, Margaret Corbin, Frances Brooks, and Mildred Nichols.

 

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Barry and Donna Teems,

Gary and Kay Teems, Joe Slater, Jerry Slater, Jimmy Slater, and Ricky Slater;

daughters, Melanie Teems and Cheryl Conner; brothers, Richard Teems,

Ray Teems, Ralph Teems, Jerry Teems, and Rickey Teems; sisters, Betty

Ramey, Peggy Money, Susan Dawson, and Carolyn Evitt; a number of

Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Mrs. Leona Lawson Obit (ER)

MRS. LEONA LAWSON, age 91, of Calhoun, Georgia passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013, in the local nursing home. A native of LaGrange, Georgia, She was born to the late Luther Cleveland and Ola McCormick Webb on December 31, 1921. Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by her husband, the late Lewis Levi Lawson, a son Jessie Shuman, Jr., and sisters, Frances Abercrombie and Dorothy Allmon died previously.

Surviving are daughter-Lillian Daniel of Trion; son-William Thomas Shuman of Gainesville; brother-in-law-Leonard Allmon of Lindale; grandchildren-Cindy Clark, Rhonda Stowe, Lisa Parks, Tommy Shuman, Jonathan Shuman, & Jessie Lamar Shuman; nine Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 15th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. MRS. PATRICIA ANN LANGSTON, age 65, of Alabama Avenue-Cloudland, Georgia passed away Friday, January 11, 2013, at her residence following an extended illness. A native Chattooga County, Georgia, She was born to the late Kirby Smith and Jimmie Sue Green Smith who survives. Mrs. Langston was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Allen Langston; Daughters Josie Burrage and Cindy Tishaw; Great Granddaughter Alyssa Freeman; Brother Kenneth Smith.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law-Margie & Don Dabney and April & Stephen Fowler; son and daughter-in-law Scotty & Misty Langston; mother-Jimmie Sue Smith; sister-Peggy Baty; brother and sister-in-law Tony & Gloria Smith all of Cloudland; Nine Grandchildren; Three Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.
