Mr. Abe Cleveland Kennedy Obit (M)

Mr. Abe Cleveland Kennedy, age 93, of Englewood, FL and of Mahan Road, Summerville, GA, passed away Tuesday February 28, 2012 in Englewood, FL.

Mr. Kennedy was born June 17, 1918, in Chattanooga, TN, the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Bertha Johnston Kennedy. He was Co-Owner of the Oakgrove Moble Home Park, having retired in 1995 after 40 years. He was a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem #19, Charter member of the Rotary Club of Englewood, B.P.O.E., Englewood Masonic Lodge #360, F.& A.M., member of the Lemon Bay Sunrise Rotary Club, American Legion, Englewood Community Club, and served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by his wife Rose “RoseBud” Hutchins Kennedy, and a son, Abe Cleveland Kennedy, JR.

Survivors include his Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday March 2, 2012, at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Max Reed officiating with interment in the Garrett Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Nephews.

Mr. Kennedy will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. Friday until the service hour

Ms. Susan Lynnette “Lynn” Greene Obit (M)

Ms. Susan Lynnette “Lynne” Greene, age 54 of Rock Spring, GA passed away suddenly Monday, February 27, 2012 at her residence.

Ms. Greene was born in Trion, Georgia on March 18, 1957, beloved daughter of Robert J. Greene and Evelyn Jackson Greene. She was a graduate of West Georgia College having earned a Biology Degree and a Master’s Degree in Education. Ms. Greene was employed with Georgia Northwestern Technical College and was a member of the South Summerville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, P.A. and Clara Greene and Paul Edward Jackson.

Ms. Greene is survived by her parents, Bob and Evelyn Greene, grandmother, Bertha Jackson; “special nieces“, MacKenzie and Savannah Greene; Aunt and Uncles, Fred and Sarah Greene of Woodstock and Dan and Melissa Greene of Griffin; cousins, Karen West, Angie Hughes, Danny Greene, Joshua Shadrick, and several other cousins also survive.

Funeral Services for Ms. Greene will be held Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. David Craven and Rev. Richard Dendler officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Danny Greene, Todd Hughes, Justin Hughes, Josh Shadrick, Darrell Greene and Caleb Willingham. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Fowler, Sylvia Kestler and all Employees of Georgia Northwestern Technical College.

Ms. Greene will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

Mrs. Sadie Mae Ray Obit (EP)

Sadie Mae Ray, age 93 of Cemetery Road, Lyerly, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012 in Oakview Nursing Home. She was born September 3, 1918 in Cherokee Co., AL, daughter of the late John & Dorothy Mae Townsend Ray. She was a Homemaker and a member of the Belmont Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband,  Eugene Ray; 2 brothers, Cecil Ray & Gurdine Ray. 

Survivors include a nephew, Rickey Lee Ray, Conyers, Ga., several counsins.

Funeral & interment service will be conducted at the Oakhill Cemetery, Lyerly, Ga. at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.

There will be no visitation.

Family will meet at Oakhill Cemetery, Lyerly, Ga. at 2:00 p.m.

Mr. Namon Lee Dennis (M)

Mr. Namon Lee Dennis, age 88, of Summerville, GA died Friday, February 24, 2012 at Floyd Medical Center after a full life and a short illness.

Mr. Dennis was born May 15, 1923 in Fort Payne, AL, the son of the late Argous Lophonia Dennis and Glennie Mae Shankles Dennis. Mr. Dennis was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Olene Reese Dennis and a sister, Letha Izell. Mr. Dennis was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served as a medic in World War II and was a member of the East Trion Church of God for almost 60 years.

Survivors include his children, Jon R. Dennis, Jimmy Lee Dennis, sister, Olivia Watkins, grandchildren, Anthony Dennis, Angela Odom, Jessica Dennis Green, Zachary Dennis and Alleigha Dennis; great-grandchildren, Cole Dennis, Collier Dennis, Kaycee Dennis, Shelby and Jaxon Green, Nathaniel Odom and Christina Watkins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, February 27, 2012 at the East Trion Church of God with Rev. Jimmy Chastain, Rev. Billy Wright, Rev. John Leatherwood and Rev. Ed Nelson officiating. Graveside and burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Ed Nelson and Rev. Charles Izell officiating.

Active pallbearers will be Zach Dennis, Anthony Dennis, Bobby Holbrook, Steve Waddell, Robert Speer and Josh Green. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the East Trion Church of God and Old Weave Room Employees of Mt. Vernon Mills.

Mrs. Betty June Helton Obit (R)

MRS. BETTY JUNE HELTON, age 85, of Rome, Georgia formerly of Chattooga County, passed away Friday (February 24, 2012) in a LaFayette nursing home. A native of Berryton, Georgia, She was born to the late Dallas and Virginia Koonce Berry on October 24, 1926. Mrs. Helton was a member of West Rome Baptist Church and was a secretary for the Rome News Tribune retired. She was preceded in death by husband the-late Alvin H. Helton, brother-the late Billy Berry, and nephew-the late John Berry. Surviving are daughters and son-in-law, Diane & Jehrome Myrick and Debbie Helton all of Trion; son-Phil Helton of Rome; grandchildren-Misty & Jason Copeland, Kristy Treadaway, Kevin & Kim Payton, Lauren & Robbie Womack, Jonathan Helton, and Carla Lucas; 7 Great Grandchildren; nephew-William Berry of Arizona. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 26th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Brother Tommy Pledger officiating, interment in Lyerly Cemetery. Mr.Donald Douglas Brock Obit (M)

Mr. Donald Douglas Brock, age 75, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Brock was born October 2, 1936 in Summerville, GA, the son of the late Alvin Arledge and Mildred Chamlee Brock. Mr. Brock had previously worked as a farmer and later retired from Mt. Vernon Mills. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Butler Brock; a brother, Melvin Brock; sister, Lanell Brock; and a granddaughter, Sherry Tapp.

Survivors include his children, Douglas Lamar Brock and Teresa Espinoza; brothers, Harlan Brock and Lavon Brock; grandchildren, Alisha Cavin, Contessa Brock, Sebrina McCrickard, and Christopher Tapp; great-grandchildren, Misty Lively, Tiffany Lively, B. J. McCrickard, Adora Cavin, Jovie Cavin, Kaden Lee, Brinna Rinehart Tapp; Chelsea Tapp, and Vanessa Tapp.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery. Rev. J.B. McNeil Obit (R)

REV. J. B. McNEIL, age 81, of Menlo, Georgia passed away Thursday morning (February 23, 2012) at His residence. A native of Franklin, Georgia.   He was born to the late H. A. and Bessie Brittain McNeil on June 25, 1930. Rev. McNeil was a member of the North Georgia Conference of United Methodist Church having pastored numerous Churches during his carrier.

 He was preceded in death by Parents and six Siblings. Surviving are His wife-Betty Jane McNeil; daughters-Nanci (Steve) Hicks of Cleveland, GA and Sarah (Steve) Widincamp of Menlo; sons-Britt (Melody) McNeil of Marietta and Lee (Jane) McNeil of Athens, GA; sister-Kitty Caldwell of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren-Kevin McNeil, Matthew McNeil, Jason McNeil, Kirsten McNeil, Anna McNeil, Rebekah McNeil, Nathan McNeil, Atticus Hicks, Annie Hicks, Susanna Brantley, Luke Brantley, Mary Ellen Widincamp; great granddaughter-Kendall McNeil; several Nieces and Nephews.

Memorial service will be held Sunday (February 26th) 3:00 P.M. from the Rome First United Methodist Church with Rev Dr. Herschell Sheets, Rev. Jane Brooks, and Rev. Charles Barnes officiating. Visitation will be 1 til 2:30 P.M. Sunday @ the Church. The Family will receive friends Friday (today) from 5 until 7 P.M. @ Earle Rainwater Funeral Home; private burial Saturday in Campbellton United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Wheeler Junior Evans, age 81, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Evans was born April 1, 1930 in Summerville, GA, the son of the
late Thomas Wheeler and Zenter Allmon Evans. He was owner and
operator of Evans Texaco. Mr. Evans was a member of Calvary
Baptist Church.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Charlene Lowery Evans; daughter
and son-in-law, Pam and Raymond Ware; sister, Betty Davis;
grandchildren, Jason and wife, Donna Ware, and Ashley Ware;
and a great-grandchild, Jaden Ware.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday, February 24, 2012

Mrs. Lillie “Aunt Mae” Hunt Obit (EP)

Mrs. Lillie "Aunt Mae" Hunt, age 91 of Conway Drive, Trion, GA passed away Monday, February 20, 2012 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.  Mrs. Hunt was born May 1,1920 in Dekalb County, AL.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Corinth Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir and the chorus, and was officer in the Ladies Mission Group.
   Mrs. Hunt was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Hunt; parents, James and Eula Baker Evans; brother, Grady Evans; sisters, Minnie Bowlin, Beatrice Parker, and Jessie Hearlson.
   Mrs. Hunt is survived by sons and daughters-in-laws, James and Linda Hunt of Summerville, GA and Chester and Gail Hunt of Trion, GA; grandchildren, Chad Hunt, Nick Hunt, Adam Hunt, Nicole Hunt, and Penni Ware; 8 great-grandchildren; special niece, Betty Ridley;  several nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Weaver officiating.  Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.
