Mrs. Violet P. Mason, age 85 of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Mason was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on May 6, 1925, daughter of the late Limon Kelley and Estelle Chastain Kelley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin C. Mason; 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.

Mrs. Mason is survived by a daughter, Stella L. Roberts of Summerville; 4 Grandchildren, Buddy and Carrie Roberts of Sylacouga, AL, Jess & Miranda Roberts of Adairsville, Calvin E. Roberts of Rome and Anna Roberts of Summerville; 5 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside and Interment services for Mrs. Mason will be held Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Green Hills Memory Gardens with Minister Buddy Roberts officiating.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Mason, Gary Mason, Jess Roberts, Buddy Roberts, Bobby Roberts and Leon Tucker.

Mrs. Mason will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Saturday from 12 Noon until the funeral hour.

Ms. Elsie Ruth Henry Obit

MS. ELSIE RUTH HENRY, age 83, of Highway #337-Teloga Community, Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday (October 26, 2010) afternoon from injuries received in an automobile accident, earlier Wednesday, near her home. She was born in Walker County, Georgia in April 21, 1927, a daughter of the late George Washington and Mattie Lenor Wilson Henry. She was a member of the Menlo Church of Christ, a retired nurse, and in March, 2010 Ms. Henry received the G.L.O.W. award from the Georgia Commission on Women for her ongoing work with recovering substance abusers. She was preceded in death by a son , the late David Earl Pettyjohn.

Surviving are son and wife-Paul & Sondra Pettyjohn of Hixson, TN.; grandchildren-Jake Pettyjohn, Kayla Pettyjohn, and Julie Nowotny; one Great Granddaughter; brothers-Ed Henry of LaFayette, Ray Henry of Texas, and Ralph Henry of Armuchee; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday (October 30th) at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home. The Family will receive friends Saturday from 12 noon until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Horace Jonshon – Complete Obit

Mr. Horace Lee Johnson, age 87 of Taliaferro Springs Road in Lyerly, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at a Summerville healthcare facility.

He is survived by his sons, Eugene Jessie Johnson of Rome, Ralph and Mary Johnson of Tusun, AZ, Charles Johnson of Rome, Marilyn Gibbons of Rockmart, William and Essie Johnson of Rome, Michael and Mary Johnson of Lithonia, Bruce Johnson of Atlanta; daughters, Emma and Otis Martin, Virinia Johnson and Carolyn Johnson all of Lyerly, Diane and Donald Grooms of Hampton, GA, Marry and Terrell Perry of Summerville and Deborah and Frances Bell of Atlanta.  Sister in Law, sixteen grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services wil be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 1 PM at Ruth Temple Holiness Church with Elder J. Wesley and other ministers officiating.  The body will lie in state at the church from 12 noon until the hour of service.  Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.

Mr. J.R. Tucker Obit

Mr. J. R. Tucker, age 81 of Trion, GA, passed away Monday evening from injuries received in an automobile accident earlier near Adairsville, GA. Mr. Tucker was born in Cherokee County Alabama on April 16, 1929, a son of the late John and Isabell Kitchens Tucker. Mr. Tucker was a retired Textile worker and employee of Trion Rec. Department Maintenance.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law- Trena & Denny Strickland of Trion; son and daughter-in-law Ricky & Melinda Tucker of Summerville. Grandchildren- Amy Strickland, Jason & Selena Tucker, Step Children- Robert Doyle Jones, Jr. of Ringgold, GA, Michael Anthony (Carol) Jones of Summerville, Gregory Lynn Jones of Trion, Johnny DeWayne (Lisa) Jones, Jr. of Batavia, ILL, Ikie & Mary Henderson of Summerville, Bobby & Sheila Nixon of Summerville, Billy & Jean Blackmon of Summerville. Fourteen Grandchildren and one Great Grandchild also survive.

Funeral services will be Thursday (October 28) at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. John Mann officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Mike Meers, Neal Meers, William Wyatt, Lynn Jones, Don Glass and Max Tucker. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Adult Sunday School Class of Berryton Faith Temple. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 till 7:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Elvagene Tucker Obit

Mrs. Elvagene Belle Tucker, age 77, of Trion, GA, passed away Monday evening at Erlanger Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident earlier near Adairsville, GA. Mrs. Tucker was born in Chattooga County Georgia on August 23, 1933, a daughter of the late Johnny and Mary Baker Fortune and was a homemaker.

Surviving are Sons and Daughters-in-law- Robert Doyle Jones, Jr. of Ringgold, GA; Michael Anthony & Carol Jones of Summerville; Gregory Lynn Jones of Trion; Johnny DeWayne & Lisa Jones, Jr. of Batavia, ILL. Step-children- Trena & Denny Strickland of Trion, Ricky & Melinda Tucker of Summerville. Sisters- Sandra Snider and Helen Wyatt both of LaFayette. Brothers- Glen Fortune of Chicago, ILL, Hoyt Fortune of Dallas, TX and Thomas Fortune of Trion.

Funeral services will be Friday (October 29) at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. John Mann officiating, interment in LaFayette Memory Gardens. Mrs. Judy Cook Obit

Mrs. Judy E. Culpepper Cook, age 57, of LaGrange, Georgia, formerly of Summerville, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Emory University Hospital following a sudden illness. 

Mrs. Cook was born in DeKalb County, Alabama on March 23, 1953, daughter of the late Eunice Culpepper and Irene Culpepper. She was a member of the Ayers United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Seitz in 1978 and a brother, JC Culpepper in 1994.

Mrs. Cook is survived by her husband, Tommy L. Cook of LaGrange; two sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew and Terri Pilgrim of Clarkesville, and Brett and Tonia Cook of Darien, GA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Shannon and Lamar Starkey of Henegar, and Becky and Leon Tucker of Summerville; a special niece, Jennifer Starkey Barker of Ft. Payne, and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 2:30 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Hester and Rev. Don Samples officiating.

Rev. Hoyt Mitchell Obit

Rev. Hoyt Dewitt Mitchell, age 86, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010, at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Mitchell was born June 2, 1924 in Summerville, GA, son of the late Bosi Manti and Ada Jones Mitchell . Mr. Mitchell was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, and prior to his retirement, he was self-employed as a carpenter. He was a member of the Berryton Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Eula Louis Ivey Mitchell; sons, Scott Mitchell, Anthony Mitchell, and John Hoyt Mitchell; daughter, Mary Jane Brown; 6 Grandchildren; 6 Great-grandchildren; and 2 Great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010 from the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Cox and Rev. Billy Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be William Brown, Beauregard Biddy, Arthur Brown, Gene Cavin, Ricky VanPelt.

Mr. Mitchell will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday.

 

Mrs. Johnnie Myers

MRS. JOHNNIE MAE FREEMAN MYERS of Hartwell, Georgia, formerly of Summerville, passed away Sunday morning in Hartwell, following an extended illness. She was born in McKinney, Texas on November 27, 1920 to the late John D. and Elizabeth Champion Freeman. Mrs. Myers graduated from Baylor School of Nursing with her Registered Nurse degree, where she met her future husband-Lieutenant Graves T. Myers, III-they were married Christmas Eve, 1941. Mrs. Myers was a member of the Summerville Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter-the late Joyce Lynne Myers Wood, four sisters, and four brothers.

Surviving are son and wife-Graves T. (Susan) Myers, IV of Hartwell, GA.; former son-in-law-Don Wood of Severna Park, MD.; grandchildren-Andy Wood, Dr. Cindy Huffaker, Samuel Trenholm Myers, Elizabeth Manley; 6 Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 26th, at 11:00 A.M. from the Summerville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Paul Bayerl and Rev. Jan Rhodes officiating, interment in the Family lot of Trion Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Wood, Andy Wood, Dodd Huffaker, Trent Myers, Ryan Gravely, and Graves T. Myers, IV.
The Family will receive friends Tuesday at the Church from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs. Myers.

Ms. Sarah Elizabeth Dallas – Age 60 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, OCtober 21, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Georgia.  She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Bozzie Lee Daniel, brothers, Mr. William Daniel, Mr. David Daniel and sister Ms. Gloria Daniel.

Survivors are her loving family, two daughters, Ms. Stephanie Charlene Dallas, Ms. Charity Shvon Dallas; mother, Mrs. Leola Adams Daniel; sisters, Ms. Leola Darlene Jackson; grandchildren, Raven Symone Dallas, Donovan Lamar Dallas, Ti’Shay Shajuan Perry, Tiyous Jaivon Dallas; aunts, Mrs. Drucilla Pollard, Mrs. Daisy Adams, Mrs. Virginia Clay, Mrs. Katherine Adams; unlce, Mr. Charlie Clay; nieces, Kimberly Williams, Frances Ware, Monalisa Adams, Desiree Pollard; other great nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Earl James McDaniel obit

Mr. McDaniel was born June 14, 1923 in Cloudland, GA, the son of the late Bob McDaniel and Annie Jane Stoker McDaniel. He was retired from the Lookout Mountain Community Services and he was a member of the Pennville Christian Missionary Alliance Church. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and a great friend to all who knew him. He loved his family and his church, most of all he loved his Lord and Savior. Mr. McDaniel was preceded in death by his first wife, Winnie Lee McDaniel; son, Bobby Wayne McDaniel; brothers, John McDaniel and Enoch McDaniel; sisters, Rosie Smith and Jannie M. Durham; step-granddaughter, Regina Eubanks.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy McDaniel; sons and daughters-in-law, Davis Lee McDaniel, James Timothy & Karen McDaniel, and John Anthony "Tony" & Mary McDaniel; daughters and sons- in-law, Earlene & David Elliott, Annie Sue and Phillip Murphy; step-daughters and husbands, Nancy & Jimmy Gribble, Malinda & Jay Tong, Cynthia & Eddie Wilson, Laura Stricklin and Kelvin Lovingood; daughter-in-law, Sheryl McDaniel; sister, Mary Jones; 13 Grandchildren; 3 Step-grandchildren; 26 Great Grandchildren; and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.
