Mr. Frank Alan Turner, Sr. Obit

Mr. Frank Alan Turner, Sr., age 86, of Summerville, GA. passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Cherokee Medical Center. Mr. Turner was born in Grady County, OK. on June 15, 1924, son of the late John Turner and Vinnie Pickle Turner. Prior to retirement Mr. Turner was employed as a supervisor with Bigelow-Sanford Rug Mill, he was a veteran of WWII. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Morris Turner. Mr. Turner is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank Alan Turner, Jr. and his wife Caron, Jackson, Miss., Ernest Richard and Sherry Turner, Cedar Bluff, Al. 3 granddaughters, Marianne Turner, Sara Turner and Stephanie Turner, 3 great-grandchildren, Blaine Peace, Isabelle Peace, Blake Peace. Funeral service will be held 5:00 p.m. Monday August 2, 2010 at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Russell and Rev. Doyle Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Brown, Jerry Brown, John Bell, Oliver Brown, Jimmy Thompson, Robert Wilson. Mr. Turner will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday August 2, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. until the service hour.

 

Rash obit

Mr. K. D. "Dale," Rash, age 75, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Rash was born August 25, 1934 in Rash, AL, the son of the late Charlie Lee and Lula Rogers Rash. He was retired from Southern Railway and was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church. He was former owner operator of Dale’s Country Store.

Mr. Rash is survived by his wife, Patsy Rash; son, Dennis Rash, Norris, TN; brother, William Rash, Goose Creek, SC; grandchildren, Amy Rash, Knoxville, TN and Dennis Rash, JR, Jacksonville, AL, and several Nieces and Nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Tom Russell and Rev. Wayne Gardner officiating. Active pallbearers will be C. L. Kilgore, Floyd Ward, Herbert Hughes, Ben Young, R. E. Houston, and Chris Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Gardner, Tommy Gardner, Butch Camp, John Fackler, Jerry Timmons, Mike Long, and Jimmy Schram.

Mr. Rash will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Friday, July 30, 2010.

 

Stiles Obit

Mrs. Betty Doris Stiles, age 71, of Trion, GA died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Stiles was born November 2, 1938 in Stephenson, AL, the daughter of the late Walter and Nell Goff Adams. She was a wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Stiles.

Mrs. Stiles is survived by her children, Darryl and Penni Stiles, Brenda and Edward Ingram, Kathy and Tommy Stinson, Regina and Doug Holt, and Melinda and Rickey Tucker; sister, Patty Shaw; 10 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2010 with Rev. David Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgeway Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Tucker, Kyle Stinson, Tyler Stinson, Cassy Crider, Blake Stiles, Tommy Stinson, Doug Holt, and Rickey Tucker.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

 

Mr. Lawerence Bandy Obit

Mr. Lawrence Winston Bandy, Sr., age 86, of Armuchee, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Bandy was born in Murray County, Georgia on December 4, 1923, son of the late John Robinson Bandy and Annie Deette Keith Bandy. He was a member of the New Armuchee Baptist Church and prior to retirement was employed with the Rome Oil Mill. Mr. Bandy was a veteran of the United States Army, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Sonya Yvonne Ballew; brothers, Wilfred Lilburn Bandy, Charles L. Bandy, John R. Bandy, Jr.; and his former wife Bernice Davis Bandy.

Mr. Bandy is survived by three sons, John W. Bandy, Armuchee, Lawrence W. Bandy, Jr. and his wife, Gretna, Summerville, and Charles Bandy and his wife, Simone, Miami, FL; daughter, Mary Holcomb, Leesburg, AL; brother, Robert E. Bandy, Cleveland, OH; sisters, Marcelle Kilgore, Spring Place, GA, and Rachel Poteet, Dalton; 14 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Graveside and Interment Services for Mr. Bandy will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, Rome, GA with Rev. Lavonne Humphrey officiating.

Pallbearers will be Lee Ballew, Shane Bandy, Gary Holcomb, Matt Battle and Charlie Bandy.

Mr. Bandy will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

Harold Pickle Obit

MR. HAROLD PICKLE, age 87, of Mahan Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday morning at his residence. He was born in Cherokee County, Alabama on September 25, 1922 to the late Tim and Emma Brady Pickle. Mr. Pickle was a member and Sunday School teacher of South Summerville Baptist Church. He was a D Day Veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division. Mr. Pickle was retired truck driver for Ragland Oil Company and was preceded in death by his wife the late Helen Rosebud Willingham Pickle, son-the late Billy Don Pickle, and brother-the late Wilburn Pickle.

Surviving are Grandchildren-Michelle & Todd Stricklin, Tim & Paulette Pickle, and Jason Pickle all of Summerville; Daughter-in-Law-Sarah Pickle Garrison; Great Grandchildren-Ali Finster, Lauren Finster, Tyler Pickle, Lindsey Stricklin, and Spencer Stricklin; Sisters-Maurene Wallin and Haynie Speer both of Summerville and Waynie Edge of Trion; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 25th, at 2:00 P.M. from the South Summerville Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Bryant officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden, with Military Honors by American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of Rome. John “Bud” Haygood Jr obit

Mr. John  "Bud" Haygood, Jr. age 74 of 41 Sixth Str., Trion, GA. passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010 at his residence.  Mr. Haygood was born September 17, 1935 in Trion, GA.  He had been employed with City of Calhoun, was a member of the Berryton Bible Mission Christian Center, and was a Veteran of the US Navy.

Mr. Haygood was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Andrew and Florence Lively Haygood; and several brothers and sisters.  Mr. Haygood is survived by his wife, Joyce Haygood of Trion, GA; Children and their spouses, Gerald and Karin Haygood of Summerville, GA, Tina and Chris Pickle of Summerville, GA, Keith and Gail Haygood of Cartersville, GA, Michael and Kristi Haygood of Summerville, GA, Scotty and Amy Haygood of Calhoun, GA, Tyra and Jerry Bennett of Trion, GA, and Jerry and Charlotte Rutledge and children; 13 Grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Grace Blackmon of Trion, GA.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 2:00pm from the Chapel of the Erwin-Pettit Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Rutledge and Rev. Donny Rutledge officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetary with Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 performing military honors.

Mr. Auburn Lee Canada, age 80, of Jamestown, AL died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Canada was born July 2, 1930 in Cherokee County, AL, the son of the late Joe and Mary Allen Canada. He was retired from Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Factory. Mr. Canada was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church where he served as deacon and a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife, Maggie Lee Canada; children, Gary Wayne Canada, Ricky Glenn & Trish Canada, Timothy Lee and Karen Canada, Jerry Anthony Canada, Diane Elizabeth & Paul Reynolds, and Nancy Kay Burkhead; 12 Grandchildren; and 15 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p. m. (EST) Friday, July 23, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Berry and Rev. Chris Hearns officiating. Burial will follow in Moseley Cemetery. Ralph JT “Scatter” Harris obit

Mr. Ralph J. T. "Scatter" Harris, age 84, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Harris was born August 11, 1925 in Centre, Al, the son of the late Jonas and Laura Belle Renfroe Harris. He was retired from Shaw Industries after 40 years of service as a truck driver. He was also former owner of Quick’s Cash & Carry and Crossroads Market. Other than his parents, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Annie Young, Inez VanPelt, and Helen Purcell.

Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ann Harris; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky Harris, Savannah, GA, Ronnie and Gale Harris and Donnie and Cheryl Harris, all of Rome, GA; sister, Beatrice Ellis, Summerville, GA; 4 Grandchildren; and 4 Great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, July 23, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allen Young officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Mr. Leonard Myers Brown, age 86, of Trion, GA died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Brown was born February 22, 1924 in LaFayette, GA, the son of the late Jasper and Georgia Bandy Brown. He was retired from Riegel Textile and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Brown; sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Sharon Brown and Marty and Donna Brown; sisters, Gladys Thomas, Grace Houser, and Mamie Parker; grandchildren, Tracy Brown, Brad Brown, Justin Brown, and Garrett Brown; and 10 Great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sammy Joe Stricklin, age 71, of Summerville, GA died Monday, July 19, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Stricklin was born March 1, 1939 in Hardin County, TN, the son of the late Sammy Clyde Stricklin and Frances Wisdom Stricklin. Mr. Stricklin was a faithful member of the North Summerville Baptist Church. He was retired from Southern Company and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was preceded in death by brothers, Grant Stricklin and William Dewey Stricklin.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Ann Harbour Stricklin; children, Sammy Jr, & Terry Stricklin, Todd & Michelle Stricklin, Chad Stricklin, & Sheila Moore, all of Summerville, GA; brothers, Jimmy Stricklin Sr, Summerville, GA, & James W. Stricklin, San Antonio, TX; sisters, Molly Ragan & Shirley Willimgham, both of Summerville, GA; 15 Grandchildren; and 7 Great-grandchildren.
