MRS. TRESSIE WILMA BRYANT, age 80, of Spring Creek Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Wednesday (March 3, 2010) evening in a Rome hospital following an illness. Born in Center, Alabama on October 15, 1929, She was a daughter of the late Marvin Thomas and Allie Ozelle Mitchell Collins. Mrs. Bryant was Baptist by Faith, retired from health care, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Roy T. Bryant, Sr.

Surviving are daughters-Betty Wain of Gadsden, Al., Lillian Hendrie and Charlene Elan both of LaFollette, Il., Janice Luallen of Summerville, Barbara Hudgins of Trion, Madelyn George of Summerville, Teresa Bryant of Atlanta, Charlotte Bryant of Trion, Kay Kendrick of LaFayette, Marie Beason of Trion, Darlene Hughes of Summerville; sons-Johnny Thornton of Gadsden, Al., Roy T. Bryant, Jr. of Summerville, William Thomas Bryant of Summerville, and Ricky Bryant of Trion; sister-Elaine Collins of Summerville; brothers-Truman Ray Collins and Roy Collins both of Summerville, and Lamar Collins of Rome; forty one Grandchildren, eighty Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday (March 6th) at 1:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Walter Morgan officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Mr. Edward K. "Ed" Smith, age 78, of Trion, GA died Friday, February 26, 2010 at his residence. 

Mr. Smith was born December 14, 1931, the son of the late Julius E. and Rosa Belle Smith. Mr. Smith served as pianist at Welcome Hill and Pennville Baptist Church for many years and he accompanied several gospel quartets. Known as the "piano man", he tuned and repaired pianos throughout the Tri-State area and taught hundreds to play over the past 50 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having proudly served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Smith retired from Mt. Vernon Mills in 1996 and for the past 7 years, with wife Shirley, has owned and operated the Mornin’ Glory restaurant in Trion. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara B. Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley C. Smith; Trion, GA; children, Ken & Mitzi Smith, Alan and Patti Smith, Richie and Marie Smith, Jes and Stephanie Smith, all of Summerville, GA, Lyn and Chuck Kocincki, Fort Oglethorpe, GA, Susan and John Hopkins, Hiram, GA, Neil and Deb Colbert, Centre, AL, Tony Colbert, Trion, GA; brother, J. LaVerne and Jeannie Smith, Clermont, FL; 11 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; Nieces and Nephews. Others survivors include sisters-in-law, Geri Hughes, Canton, GA, Charlotte and Michael Hawkins, Athens, TN and Brenda Veatch-Haynes, Summerville, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, March 1, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Dempsey, Rev. Andy Hutchins, and Rev. Michael Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Adam Smith, Matthew Smith, Nicholas Smith, Quinten Hopkins, Dalton Colbert, and Tony Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be the Employees of the Mornin’ Glory.

MR. JERRY RAYMOND KIRBY, age 71, of Sunset Drive-Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday (February 27, 2010) evening at his residence following an extended illness. A lifetime resident of Chattooga County, Georgia He was born to the late George Sidney Kirby and Ruby Lee Phillips Kirby who survives. Mr. Kirby attended the North Summerville Baptist Church, was retired auto body repairman, and a Veteran of the U. S. Marines Corps. He was preceded in death by a sister, the late Sara MacArthur and brothers the late L.M. “Bud” Kirby and Donald Wayne Kirby.

Surviving is His wife of 52 years-Barbara Bearden Kirby; mother-Ruby Phillips Kirby of Summerville; daughters and spouses-Kimberly Kay and Paul A. Smith of Nashville, TN., Kristy K. and Kalen Colbert of LaFayette, and Kerry Ketrine Kirby of Summerville; son and spouse-Kelly Kennon and Lou Ann M. Kirby of Tuson, AZ.; sisters-Dorothy Haney of Valley Head, AL., Kathryn Gravitt of Ft. Oglethorpe, Patricia Kirby of Summerville, Edith Lunsford of Summerville, Linda Langston and Linda Fowler both of Rome; grandchildren-Desiree Carver, Celsea McCann, Bethany McCann, Benjamin McCann, and Kassidy Kirby; great grandchildren-Addison McGuire and Aaden McGuire; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Mr. Tommy Leon Treadaway, age 63, of Hampton Court, Dalton, GA, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010 in Hamilton Medical Center.  He was born February 12, 1947 in LaFayette, GA, was retired from Mount Vernon Mills, was a Baptist by faith and was a member of Disabled Veterans.  Mr. Treadaway was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam as a medic.

Mr. Treadaway was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lonnie (L. C.) and Mae Brown Treadaway and a brother, Charles Treadaway.

Mr. Treadaway is survived by his sons, Chris Treadaway and Alan Treadaway of Dalton, GA; sisters, Diane Watkins of Trion, GA, Shirley Speer of Summerville, GA, Betty Mahan of Rome, GA, Debbie Piper of Tennessee and Sandra Kirby of Summerville, GA; brothers, Jimmy Treadaway of Trion, GA, Jerry Treadaway of Summerville, GA, Randy Treadaway of Cedartown, GA, Bobby Treadaway of Rome, GA, and Billy Treadaway of Trion, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 2pm from the chapel of Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Buster Fox officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Treadaway will lie in state at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home on Thursday, February 18, 2010, where the family will receive friends from 1 until 2pm.  Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Trin Augustus Wooten, Jr., 82, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at
Hutcheson Medical Center.

He was employed by Gulf Oil Corporation for over 30 years. He worked
in Chattanooga, was plant manager in Paducah, Kentucky, and then
transferred to Louisville, Kentucky where he was plant manager until
his retirement in 1983.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Trin and Willie Stowe Wooten,
formerly of Chattooga County;  brothers, Chester, Ralph and Johnny;  and
sisters, Thelma Beagles and Eloise Wood.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Polly Hartline Wooten,  two
daughters, Lynn Jackson of Chickamauga and Laura Crawford of
Chickamauga; two sons, Trin A. Wooten III of Chickamauga and Jim
Wooten, of LaFayette; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren;                                              cousins Ressie Howell, Janey McWhorter, Pauline Hixon,  Mamie Hartline ,                                         and others of the Trion and Summerville area.
 
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Heritage Funeral Home in
Fort Oglethorpe, the Rev. Ralph Wooten, Jr. officiating.
 
Burial will follow at Grand Center Cemetery in Chickamauga.

Visitation will be at Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Kenneth Willis Kendall, age 73, Summerville, GA, formally of Dalton, GA, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010.

Mr. Kendall was born March 26, 1936, the son of the late H. W. and Ina Stover Kendall. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nema Kendall.

He is survived by his wife, Ida M. Kendall; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Ann Kendall, Kenneth E. and Emily Kendall; daughter and fiance, Julie Kendall and Ryan Fernandez; grandchildren, Nichole Kendall, Jamie Kendall, Beth Kendall, Jessie Lloyd and husband, Chip Lloyd; Breannon Noell, Dalton E. Kendall; great grandson, Tanner Lloyd; brother, Wylie Kendall; sister, Linda Jane Herber; and many Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, February 12, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Summey and Pastor Dean Tapp officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens with military rites provided by the American Legion Shanklin Attaway Post #5. Active pallbearers will be Willie E. Tapp, James E. Tapp, Michael Tapp, Leon Caylor, Stacy Nelson, and Ellis Tucker. Honorary pallbearers will be Gordon Tapp, Jeffery Caylor, and the Summerville McDonalds Breadfast Club.
