Mrs. Jo Ann Anglin

Mrs. Jo Ann Anglin, age 75, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mrs. Anglin was born September 25, 1934 in Summerville, GA, the daughter of the late Herbert P. Whitley and Sadie Mathis Whitley. Mrs. Anglin was retired from Mohawk Industries.

Survivors include her husband, John F. "Jack" Anglin, Jr; sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney L. and Harriet Anglin and Michael L. and Lois Anglin; grandchildren, Justin Anglin, Jeffery (Karen) Anglin, Brett (Ilene) Anglin, Jacob Anglin, Garrett (Ellen) Anglin, and Suzanne Anglin; great grandchild, Madeline Anglin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bill Cox and Brother Jeff Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Justin Anglin, Jeffery Anglin, Brett Anglin, Jacob Anglin, Garrett Anglin, and Suzanne Anglin.

Mrs. Anglin will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Saturday, October 10, 2009.

Mr. Robert Eugene “Gene” Dyer

Mr. Robert Eugene “Gene” Dyer, age 88, passed away Wednesday morning at Oakview Nursing Home.  He was born October 21, 1920 in Chattooga County, son of the late Robert E. Lee & Hattie Stiles Dyer.  He was retired from Mt. Vernon Riegel and was a member of the Church of God Northside.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and in the U.S. Navy for 4 years during World War II.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marion B. Dyer.Survivors include his wife, Ann Daniel Dyer, Trion; son and daughter-in-law, Kerry Wayne and Nan Dyer, Chickamauga, GA; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Jean and Ted Clark, Summerville; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Doris Dyer, Augusta, GA; sister and brother-in-law, June and John Drennan, Trion; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October, 9, 2009 at 12noon from the Chapel of Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Mrs. Sarah C. Dawson Hix

Mrs. Sarah Catherine Dawson Hix, age 92, of Redmond Road, Rome, died Tuesday, October 6 following an extended illness.Mrs. Hix was born May 8, 1917 in Chattooga County, (Gore community), daughter of the late Andrew Wesley Dawson and Susie Lillian Johnston Dawson.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hix was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow Wilson Hix in 1992 and by five sisters.Mrs. Hix was employed for a number of years with Floyd Medical Center and was a member of North Broad Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for a number of years.  She enjoyed ceramics, all aspects of farming, from raising animals to gardening, and was also an accomplished seamstress.Survivors include three daughters: Nancy Echols of Rome; Betty Bomar of Kennesaw and Linda Hegwood of Summerville; four sons, Wilson Andrew Hix of Jackson, TN; Bob Hix of Rome; Waymon Hix of Woodstock and Ferris Hix of Montara, CA; one brother, Dub Dawson of Rome; eighteen grandchildren and a large number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.Funeral services for Mrs. Hix will be held Friday, October 9, at 2pm in the North Broad Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Brooks, Rev. Katrina Brooks and Rev. Mrs. Carolyn Louise Cooper Copeland

Mrs. Carolyn Louise Cooper Copeland, age 80, of Ringgold, GA went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 7, 2009.

Mrs. Copeland was retired from Bigelow Sanford Carpet Mill, Summerville, GA. After retirement she moved to Ringgold, Georgia where she worked at Wendy’s. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Copeland; parents, Zera and Evie Cooper; brothers, Vernon Cooper, Willie Cooper, and Sidney Cooper. She was a wonderful caring christian lady that always thought of others first. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Survivors include a daughter, Carole Ramey; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry, SR and Sara DeBerry; grandchildren, Sean (April) DeBerry, Rayce (Jenny) Ramey, Jerry, JR (Anitra) DeBerry, Sheri (Trent) Hicks, 11 Great Grandchildren; sister, Rachel Dillard; brother, Max (Irene) Cooper;and several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, October 9, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Self officiating. Burial will follow in Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Trent Hicks, Sean DeBerry, Rayce Ramey, Carlton Cargle, Kenneth Price, and James Gentry.

Mrs. Emily Nixon Farrar

Mrs. Archibald A. (Emily Nixon) Farrar, Summerville, died on October 4, 2009, at her daughter’s home following a brief illness.
A descendant of pioneer families that settled in Floyd and Chattooga Counties in 1845, she was the daughter of Pennington Mason Nixon and Marian Dean Nixon. She was born July 25, 1922 and was preceded in death by her husband, Archibald A. Farrar; her parents; a brother, Pennington Mason Nixon, III and a sister, Challis Sydney Nixon.
Mrs. Farrar graduated from Rome Schools and attended the University of Georgia where she pledged Chi Omega Sorority. After college she cherished the few years she worked at the Georgia Power Company. She was a member of the Chattooga County Historical Society and Trion Presbyterian Church. She also served on the Board of the Summerville Cemetery Association.
Mrs. Farrar was affectionately known as “Miss Emily” to all of her students in the very first kindergarten started in Summerville in the 1950s. She taught Sunday school and was a substitute teacher for years in the Chattooga County School system. She had a love for history and genealogy and particularly enjoyed being the keeper of her family’s history in her own “History Room.” She was the person to consult on the issues of history relating to both Chattooga and Floyd Counties and she wrote the History of Chattooga County in 1962. An exceptional cook, she loved cooking and entertaining her family and friends.
Survivors include two sons; Archibald A. Farrar, Jr. and his wife, Nell of Summerville and Robert Nixon Farrar of Nashville, Tennessee; one daughter, Janet Farrar Byington and her husband, Bill of Rome. Also surviving are five grandchildren; John Pennington Farrar of Atlanta, Georgia, Challis Elizabeth Latta of Gainesville, Georgia, Katherine Gates Farrar of Rome, Emily Allgood Griffin of Rome and Mary Catherine Farrar of Athens, Georgia and two step grandchildren, Will Byington, III of Rome and Dr. Kelly Byington of St. Petersburg, Florida.
The family will hold a visitation at the residence of Mrs. Farrar at 164 Virginia Drive, Summerville, Georgia on Tuesday from 5-7 PM. A burial service will be held at Earl Rainwater Funeral Home on Wednesday at 3 PM with interment to follow at The Summerville Cemetery with the Reverend William Flannagan officiating.
The family requests no flowers but memorials may be sent to the Trion Presbyterian Church, 224 Park Avenue, Trion, Ga 30753 or an historical charity of your choice.
Pallbearers are: Butch Eleam, David Ford, Greg Thomas, Malcolm Lee, Robert McWhorter and Jason Winters. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Duff and the Deacons and Elders of the Trion Presbyterian Church.
 

Ralph Inman Robinson

Mr. Ralph Inman Robinson, age 63, of Summerville, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Hutcheson Medical Center.

Mr. Robinson was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on October 1, 1945, son of the late Lawrence Robinson and Willie Mae Baker Robinson. He was employed in the card room at Mt. Vernon Mills and was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Crabtree, and brothers, Arlie Robinson and J.B. Robinson.

Mr. Robinson is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie Robinson, Leonard Robinson, Perry and Wendy Robinson, and Sarah Robinson; and sisters, Betty Henderson, Bonnie Lou Jenkins and Ella Franklin.

Funeral Services for Mr. Robinson will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. In the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Robinson will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

 

Mr. Donald R. (Duck) Tanner

Mr. Donald Ray “Duck” Tanner, age 64, of Summerville, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the residence of a daughter. Mr. Tanner was born in Jefferson County, Alabama on January 16, 1945, son of the late Rev. Azell Andrew (A.A.) Tanner and Belma Jane Davis Tanner. He was a member of the Welcome Hill Baptist Church and was retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant. He also retired from Mohawk Industries where he worked as a lift truck operator. Mr. Tanner was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Neal Tanner. Mr. Tanner is survived by his wife, Janet Tanner of Summerville; daughters and sons-in-law, DeNeale and James Elrod and Jolene and Garland McCutchins of Trion; sisters, Betty Larue Brakefield of Delaware and Gwendolyn Joan Enroughty of Harlem, GA; grandchildren, Jasmine Gray, Shelby McCutchins, Tanner Elrod, Nathan Elrod, Tia McCutchins, and Shari Daniels. Graveside and interment services for Mr. Tanner will be held Monday, October, 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenhill Memory Gardens with Rev. Carlos Martinez officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marines Corps. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Enroughty and Larry Brakefield. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to your favorite charity.  

Mrs. Lynn Little Wofford

MRS. LYNN LITTLE WOFFORD, age 48, of Woodstock, Georgia, formerly of Summerville, passed away Saturday, (September 26, 2009) in a Marietta hospital following a sudden attack. A native of Chattooga County, Mrs. Wofford was born to Gordon H., Sr. and Bernice Grubbs Little on July 1, 1961. Lynn was a 1979 graduate of Chattooga High School and the 1992 graduating class of Berry College. She was a member of Christ Community Church in Kennesaw where she was active in the Praise Team (singing and learning songs were her passion). Mrs. Wofford was also active in the Church Mission Team & leading Women’s Covenant Groups,  having gone on mission trips to Peru and Thailand. She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Dr. & Mrs. R. N. Little and maternal grandparents, Mr.  & Mrs. Lamar Grubbs.

Surviving are her husband, Phil Wofford; son,  Adam Wofford of Macon; grandson, Patrick Wofford; Parents, Gordon H., Sr., & Bernice Little of Summerville; brother & sister-in-law, Gordon H. (Dan) Little, Jr. & Angela of Summerville.

Funeral services will be held Saturday (October 3rd) at 12 noon from the First Presbyterian Church, PCA  with Pastors Mike Glass and Greg King officiating, interment in the family lot of Summerville Cemetery. Mr. Lawrence (J.R.) Robinson

Mr. Lawrence Franklin "J B" Robinson, age 79, of Menlo, GA, died Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Summit Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Robinson was born March 22, 1930 in Walker County, GA, the son of the late Lawrence Robinson and Willie Mae Baker Robinson. He was retired from Roper Corporation. Mr. Robinson was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6688 and the American Legion Post 129. Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Broyles Robinson; and a brother, Arlie Robinson.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis F. and Aileen Robinson, step-daughter and husband, Marie and Ricky Cavin; brothers, Leonard Robinson, Charlie Robinson, Ralph Robinson, and Perry (Wendy) Robinson; sisters, Betty Henderson, Bonnie Lou Jenkins, Eller Mae Franklin; sister-in-law, Sarah Robinson; grandchild; Joseph D. Robinson, 5 Step-Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Steve Spears and Rev. Billy Wright officiating. Pallbearers will be Bill Tutton, Billy Brown, Herb Skelton, Sewell Cash, Carl Maorrison, and Marcellus Yancey.
