Lucille W.Owens obit

Mrs. Lucille Waters Owens age 89 of Summerville passed away Monday Morning..She was born in Chattooga County on January 16th, 1920 and was the daughter of the late Oliver and Sally Mae Caldwell Waters and a member of South Summerville Baptist Church. 

 Mrs.  Owens was preceded in death by her husband, Hill Owens; 3 brothers, Lloyd, Paul, and Jerry Waters and 2 sisters, Eula Hall and Sybil Deerman. 

Surviving are 2 daughters, Thelma McDaniel of Rock Springs and Wilma Bybee of Lady Lake, Fl. ;one son, Bruce Owens of Summerville; sister, Glenna Lawrence of Lakeview; a brother, Donald Waters of Memphis TN, 7 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren and several neices and nephews also survive..

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3pm from th JD Hill Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. David Craven and Rev. Ricky Studdard officiating. internment in Little Sand Mtn. Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be Calvin McGuire, Joseph Ferry, Wayne Hall, Lloyd Waters, Jr., Phil McDaniel, and Daryl Bybee.  The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tueday evening from 6 to 9PM…

Jimmy Teague

Mr. Jimmy Teague, 67 of 282  Hairlake Road in Summerville passed away on Sunday September 27, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Teague was born Sept. 18th, 1942 in Chattooga County, He was retired from Jarrett Trucking and was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church..

Mr. Teague was preceded in death by his father and mother Wesley Hoyt and Willie Ruth Haygood Teague..Survivors are his wife Betty Arnold Teague of Summerville;  a son and daughter in law, Jamey and Angie Teague of Cloudland.  Daughter and sons in law  Stephanie and Dee Callihan of Summerville, Grandaughter Rebecca Woody of Summerville, Step Granddaughter, Taylor Callihan of Lyerly, step grandsons Blake and Trey Thrasher of Cloudland, Brother Charles Eddie Teague of Clayton New Jersey. several neices and nephews..

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2pm from the Erwin Petitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Helton officiating, internment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.  Mr. Teague will  lie in state Tuesday at the Erwin Petitt Funeral Home and will receive friends from 7 to 9…Pallbearers will be Blake Thrasher, Trey Thrasher, Danny Powell, Dale Woody, Eric Mann and Mike Jarrett. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the New Antioch baptist Church and Buddy Gentry and are asked to assemble at 1:30 on Wednesday…Erwin Petitt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

 

John W. (Big John) Thomas Obit

Mr. John Henry Thomas, age 78, of Trion, GA died Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Thomas was born September 23, 1931 in Trion, GA the son of the late William "Bill" Cleo and Clara Pierce Thomas. He was a retired construction worker. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Welcome Hill Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by brothers, Max Thomas, Roy Thomas, sister, Mae Eller and granddaughter, Katie Lynn Bradley. Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Kay M. Thomas; his children, John Henry Thomas, Jr., Gwyn & Alfred Crabtree, Johnnie Lynne & Steve Hillman, Robin & David Burkhalter, brother, Jack & Amy Thomas, sister, Goldie Cordle Patty, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, September 28, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Shores officiating. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Shanklin Attaway Post #5. Pallbearers will be Alfred Crabtree, David Burkhalter, Roy Witt, Dale Witt, Steve Hillman and Asa Windle. Jeff Roland Brown Obit

Mr. Jeff Roland Brown, age 81, of Trion, GA died Saturday, September 26, 2009 at LaFayette Health Care.

Mr. Brown was born February 24, 1928 in Walker County, GA the son of the late Chiles Fallor and Ludy Mae Bandy Brown. He was retired from Riegel Textile and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Other than his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a daughter, Janie M. Brown; son, Gene R. Brown; sisters, Elizabeth Brown, Isadora Teems and Mozell Houston; brothers, Paulie Brown, D. C. Brown, and Hall Franklin Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Brown; children, Dean J. Brown and Sheila M. Massey; brother, Tiny W. Brown; sisters, Alice Brooks and Janie Adams; 8 Grandchildren; and 11 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn and Rev. Harold Helton officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Larry Fair, Jackie Hall, Chad Nix, Dwight Brown, Shane Tinney, and Wayne Wilson.

Inf. Cassy Alora Helms, daughter of Robert Creswell and Cristie Helms, died September 24, 2009, in Floyd Medical Center. Other survivors include grandparents, Richard Helms, Anita Bailey, Cathrine Cunningham-Lowder, and James Creswell, great-grandparents, Bobby Helms, Loleeta Smith, Robert Bailey, and serveral nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday September 28, 2009, from the Greenhills Memory Gardens, with Rev. Bobby Helms, Bro. Steve Helms, and Rev. Terry Shores officiating with interment in the Greenhills Memory Garden. Inf. Mr. Bobby Wayne McDaniel, age 55, of Menlo, GA died Wednesday, September 23, 2009 athis residence. Mr. McDaniel was born May 6, 1954 in Trion, GA the son of Earl McDaniel and the late WinnieLee Crouch McDaniel. He was employed at Northwest Regional Hospital. Mr. McDaniel wasa member of the Pennville Christian Missionary Alliance Church. He was a member of thePlumbers and Pipe Fitters Union Local #766, the Alpine Masonic Lodge # 211, and he was a Boy Scout Leader of the Menlo Troop. Mr. McDaniel is survived by his wife, Sheryl Wilson McDaniel; his children, Amber Sheryl McDaniel,Menlo, GA, Shanna Bobbie and husband, James Ammons, Eatonton, GA; his father,Earl James McDaniel, Summerville, GA; his sisters, Earlene Elliott, Rome, GA and Sue Murphy,Jamestown, AL; his brothers, Davis McDaniel, Pennville, GA, Tim McDaniel, Pennville, GA, andTony McDaniel Rockmart, GA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Nikolas Osley Obit

Nickolas Jordan Osley, age 14, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in a drowning accident.

Nick was born in Floyd County, GA on December 9, 1994 the son of Preston Osley and Joy Ray Osley. At the time of his death he was a student at the Summerville Middle School, a member of the wrestling and football teams. He had a loving personality and was a “mama’s boy”. He loved God and was everyones hero.

Survivors include his parents, Preston and Joy Osley of Summverville, GA; two brothers, Seth Osley and Chase Osley both of Summerville, GA; paternal-grandparents, Alene Smith and Chuck Osley; maternal grandparents, Pat and Mack Ray; his girlfriend, Delona Duvall.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at The Church at Northside with Rev. Steve Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at The Church at Northside.

David Zook Obit

           David H. Zook, Sr. age 62, of #12581 Highway 100, Lyerly, Georgia died Monday evening, September 21st, 2009 at a local hospital. A native of Fulton County, Georgia, Mr. Zook was born on June 27th, 1947, the son of the late Sherman P. and Dale Evans Fricks Zook.   He has been a residence of Chattooga County for 10 years moving there from Buchannan, GA. and was a member of the Shepard Chapel Church.  For a period of time Mr. Zook was associated with Southwire as an electrician and a supervisor.  

 Mr. Zook was married on January 12th, 1966 to Virginia C. “Jenny” Perry Zook who preceded him in death on February 16th, 2008.             Survivors include 2 daughters, Tina Barnett of Cedar Bluff, Ala. and Debbie Calhoun of Tallapoosa, GA.; 1 son, David H. Zook, Jr. of Lyerly, GA.; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Paul and Junior, 1 great-grandson, Christopher, 1 sister, Dianna Fricks of Rome;3 brothers, Johnny Fricks, Samuel Zook and Phil Zook.  Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for David H. Zook, Sr. will be held on Thursday afternoon, September 24th, 2009 at 2 o’clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Horace Humphery officiating.

Mrs. Lowrance retired from Riegel Textile Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Alvan Lowrance.
