Mrs. Audrey Cora Simpson Padgett, age 76, of Trion, GA., passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2008, in Hutcheson Medical Center.
Mrs. Padgett was born October 16, 1932, the daughter of the late Bob and BeulahTalley Simpson.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Highland AvenueBaptist Church.  Mrs. Padgett was preceded in death by a son, Winston Ray Padgett; 2 grandchildren, Bobby Joe Voyles, Jr. and Leslie Robin Broadrick; and 2 great grandchildren, JordanRich and Colby Rich.Survivors include sons & daughters-in-law, Roy & Martha Padgett, Summerville,GA, Mark & Teresa Padgett, Trion, GA, James & Charissa Padgett, AL; daughters

Brady Obit

Wayne Edward Brady of Rose Circle in Trion passed away on December 1st.  He was born October 2, 1972 the son of John Edward Brady and Mora Lee Chastain Durham.  He was a plumber and a member of Community Holiness Church.  He was preceded in death by grandparents, Cleo and Thelma Chastain and John Terryl Brady. Survivors include: father and stepmother, John and Rhoda Brady, Trion; mother, Nora Lee Chastain Durham of Pisgah, AL.  Former wife, Debbie Paulette Edgeworth Nance; 4 brothers: Mike Sellers, Reidsville, GA, Terry Sellers, Buford, Georgia, Sean and Jacob Brady of Trion; 3 sisters: Margie Cordel, Watuga, TN, Luann Glenn and Diane Covington of Trion; grandmother: Casie McNair of Summerville; several aunts and uncles nieces and nephews and cousins survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday December 4th at 2 PM from the Chapel of the Erwin Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Edgeworth officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.
 Pallbearers are requested to meet at the Funeral Home on Thursday December 4th at 1:30 PM and include the following: John William Brady, James Terryl Brady, George Covington, Michael Blackmon, John Marmet & Larry Blackmon. Mr. Brady will lie in state at Erwin-Pettit Funeral Home on Wednesday December 3rd where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM. Erwin – Petitt Funeral Home is charge of arrangements.

Gladys Hall Obit

Mrs. Gladys R. Hall, age 91 of Milton Circle in Summerville, passed away Sunday night in the local nursing home.  She was born on June 12, 1917, was a Methodist by Faith, and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Lee Hall and a daughter the late Linda Hill.

Surviving are grandaughter and spouse – Tonya & John Wayne Stowe, great grandaughter – Katlin Montgomery all of Trion, son in law Joe Hill of Summerville, Sisters – Hilda Brown of Summerville and Lloyd Sentell of Menlo – several neices and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday December 3 at 1:30 PM from the J. D. Hill  Memorial Chapel of the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Adams officiating.  Intement in the Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers: Dennis Bandy, Tony Evett, Donnie Hall, Tony Jones, Joe Reed and Ronnie Winters; honorary pallbearers – The Staff of the Oakview Nursing Home & Rehab Center.

The family will receive friends at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home Tuesday from 6 until 8 PM.  Earle Rainwater Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Garner Spain Obituary

Dorthy Garner Spain, 74, of Waterway Circle, Chesapeake, VA, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2008.

Born in Menlo, GA, she was the daughter of the late H.W. Garner and Mamie Willingham Garner and was preceeded in death by two brothers, Richard Henry Garner and Emory Leon Garner. Dorothy was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church. She Retired as a civilian employee from the Department of the Navy at Dam Neck.

Survivors incude her husband of 43 years, Ernest L. Spain of Chesapeake; a brother, Charles Wendell Garner and wife Wanda of Jonesboro, GA; a special friend and caretaker Barbara Mayo as well as a host of neices and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Comfort Care Hosipce, C/O Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, December 2, at 2:00pm from the chapel of the Erwin-Pettit Funeral Home with Rev. David Watkins officiating. Interment will be in West Hill Cemetary. Mrs. Spain will lie-in-state on Tuesday, December 2, where the family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.

Mrs. Elaine Witt, age 56, of Trion, GA., passed away Wednesday November 26, 2008, at her residence. Mrs. Witt was born October 25, 1952, in Trion Georgia, the daughter of Bobby and Margie Ledford Helms. She was a member of the Welcome Hill Baptist Church, a home maker and formerly employed with Mt.Vernon Mills. Stinson Obit

Mrs. Ophelia Ray Stinson, age 89 of Trion passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Shepherd Hills Nursing Center in LaFayette.

Mrs. Stinson was born in Centre, Alabama on July 1, 1919, daughter of the late Gordon C. Ray and Maude Barnes Ray. She was of the Methodist Faith and prior to retirement, was employed with Barwick Mills and Wal-Mart. Mrs. Stinson was preceded in death by a Daughter and Son-in-law, Pat and Gordon McGuire; Son, Nathan Stinson; Brothers, Kendall Ray, Charles Edgar Ray and Harold Gene Ray and a sister, Virginia McKnight.

Mrs. Stinson is survived by a daughter-in-law, Margaret Stinson; a brother, Jack Ray; Grandchildren, Tommy Stinson, Cindy Whited, Phil McGuire, Marty McGuire, Tina McGuire, Jennifer McCormick; 9 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Stinson will be held Friday, November 28, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapelwith Rev. Tom Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery. Grandsons and Great Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Stinson will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour.

 

Stoker Obit

Mr. Amos Lee Stoker, Sr. age 77 of Summerville passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. Stoker was born in Cloudland, Georgia on December 12, 1930, son of the late Henry Stoker and Mamie Moses Stoker. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Marines and the United States Army, and prior to retirement was employed with Pet Bakery. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stoker was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Brock and Susie Leaphart; and Grandsons, Christopher Ratledge and Jason Stoker.

Mr. Stoker is survived by his wife, JoAnn White Stoker; Children and their spouses, Amos Lee “Big Foot”Stoker, Jr., Larry and Johnnie Stoker, Kathy and Charles Ratledge, Vicki and Wayne Davis, Tammy and Elliott Norton, Greg and Sherri Stoker and Mark and Debbie Stoker; Brothers, Herbert “Nub” Stoker and Jim Stoker; Sisters, Bonnie Grace Stoker and Shirley Whitworth; 17 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Stoker will be held Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mitch Evans and Rev. Jack Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard in charge of full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Cody Stoker, Jonathan Ratledge, Eric Ratledge, Joe Evett, Chris Stoker, and Shawn Stoker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenneth Bates, Roy Ellenburg and Jamie Marks.

Mr. Joe Edward Smith, age 69, of Menlo, GA died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Smith was born January 26, 1939 in Walker County, GA, the son of Mary Smith Johnston and the late Bufford Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of the New Faith Tabernacle. He was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Smith; daughter, Rita Lynn Smith; brother, Martin Smith; and a sister, Faye Buffington.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Smith, Menlo, GA; children, Al & Danette Smith, Menlo, GA, Tim & Rebecca Smith, Fort Payne, AL, Melissa & Dewayne Ward, Tamala & Donnie Roan, all of Summerville, GA; mother, Mary Smith Johnston, Summerville, GA; brother, Wayne Smith, Dalton, GA; sisters, Lula Payne, Trion, GA, Dianne Blackwell and Donna Green, Summerville, GA, Cindy Cotton, Rome, GA; several Grandchildren; 5 Great-grandchildren; and a number of Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, November 22, 2008 from the Chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Sweatman Obit

Mr. William Leon Sweatman, age 71, of Trion, GA died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.

Mr. Sweatman was born July 3, 1937 in Trion, GA, the son of the late Grady Hoyt and Mary Townsend Sweatman. He was retired from Roper Corporation.

Mr. Sweatman is survived by two sons, Heath Wesley Sweatman, Chaumont, NY and Gareth Claye Sweatman, El Paso, TX; grandchild, Morgan Paige Sweatman; Chaumont, NY, and a cousin, Clarence Sweatman.

At Mr. Sweatmans request his body will be cremated and there will be no services.
