If your car looks yellow this week, you’re definitely not imagining it. Pollen levels across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia are currently very high, with tree pollen reaching peak levels in late March and leaving a visible coating on cars, porches, patios, and outdoor furniture.
Allergy specialists say pine, oak, sweet gum, and birch trees are among the biggest contributors right now. Combined with warmer temperatures and breezy conditions, that pollen is spreading quickly across the area and creating tough conditions for many people who suffer from seasonal allergies.
Forecasters expect pollen counts to remain high to very high throughout the week, meaning many residents may continue dealing with sneezing, itchy eyes, congestion, and other allergy-related symptoms. For some, the impact can be especially uncomfortable during the morning and afternoon hours when pollen levels are often at their highest.
Health experts recommend keeping windows closed at home and in your vehicle, showering and changing clothes after spending time outside, and taking steps to limit prolonged exposure when possible. Some residents may also find relief by wearing a mask outdoors or using doctor-recommended allergy medications.
Tree pollen season in Georgia typically runs from March through May, making this one of the worst stretches of the year for allergy sufferers across Northwest Georgia.
