Rain will continue across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia through this afternoon, with periods of heavy rainfall possible—especially overnight as a system moves through the region. Most areas are expected to pick up about 1 to 2 inches of rain, which could lead to ponding on roads and poor drainage—especially where leaves are clogging storm drains.
Forecasters say the steadiest rain should begin shifting out later today, with skies gradually clearing from northwest to southeast. Behind the front, colder air moves in tonight, with overnight lows dropping into the 20s and lower 30s. Wednesday looks quieter and drier, but still cool, with highs mainly in the lower to middle 50s across Northwest Georgia.
The break won’t last long. Another round of rain is expected to return Thursday afternoon, with more widespread rain likely Friday and possibly lingering into Saturday. At this time, the potential for wintry precipitation remains low, and the main concern for our area continues to be chilly temperatures and periods of cold rain.
Drivers across Chattooga County should allow extra time in wet conditions today, slow down on slick roads, and use headlights in rain and fog.
