Rain chances will stay fairly limited today across Chattooga County and the rest of Northwest Georgia, but a wetter pattern is expected to move in as the weekend continues.
Forecasters say warm and humid conditions will build into the area today, with only a slight chance of an isolated afternoon shower or thunderstorm. Most of the more active weather will stay to the south and east of the area, leaving much of Northwest Georgia with a mix of clouds and warm temperatures in the low to mid 80s.
Rain chances will begin to increase on Saturday, especially during the afternoon and evening hours, as moisture builds ahead of an approaching system.
The best chance for widespread rainfall locally will come Saturday night into Sunday, when a cold front moves through the region. That system is expected to bring a steady round of showers and a few thunderstorms, though severe weather is not expected to be a major concern.
Rainfall totals are expected to be modest, meaning the system will not provide significant relief for ongoing dry conditions in the area.
By early next week, conditions are expected to improve with cooler and drier air moving in, bringing temperatures back closer to normal along with several days of more pleasant weather.
