A Summerville man was arrested in the early morning hours of December 26, 2025, following a traffic stop that led to drug-related charges, according to an arrest report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say 45-year-old Richard Dwight Bass was taken into custody after deputies observed a vehicle abruptly turn onto Mountain View Road from Davis Road, prompting a traffic stop near Valley Drive. Deputies reported the vehicle briefly left the roadway before coming to a stop.
During the stop, deputies determined Bass was driving with a suspended or revoked license and also cited him for failure to maintain lane. Deputies then requested and received consent to search the vehicle.
According to the report, suspected narcotics were located during the search. A substance believed to be methamphetamine was field-tested and returned a positive result. Bass was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Chattooga County Jail.
Bass was charged with possession of methamphetamine, driving while license suspended or revoked, and failure to maintain lane. The incident was documented by responding deputies, and no injuries were reported.
