A Summerville student is one of two Georgia Northwestern Technical College students selected to receive the Roper Corporation Scholarship for the fall 2026 semester.
GNTC announced that Andres “Chuey” Hernandez of Summerville and Michael Doane of Chickamauga are this semester’s scholarship recipients. Hernandez is studying Automation Technology at GNTC’s Catoosa County Campus, while Doane is enrolled in the Supply Chain Management and Logistics program. Both are employees of Roper Corporation.
The Roper Corporation Scholarship was established in 2024 to provide financial assistance to GNTC students who work for the company. Students may be enrolled in any GNTC credit program but must remain employed by Roper during both the application and award semesters.
Each scholarship is worth $1,000 and can be used toward tuition, fees, supplies, tools or other educational materials.
Roper Corporation operates its large manufacturing facility in LaFayette, where more than 2,500 people are employed. The plant manufactures freestanding ranges, wall ovens and electric and gas cooktops. Roper is a wholly owned subsidiary of GE Appliances, a Haier company.
GNTC President Dr. Heidi Popham said the scholarship represents Roper’s continued investment in its employees and Northwest Georgia’s workforce.
Roper President and Executive Director Luther Ingram said the company sees helping students develop technical skills as an investment in both future employees and the region’s manufacturing industry.
There is also another local connection to the scholarship program. Earlier this year, Tammy Chandler of Trion and Salvador Hernandez of Summerville were selected as the spring 2026 Roper Corporation Scholarship recipients.
Applications for GNTC Foundation scholarships for the spring semester open Thursday, October 1, and remain open through October 31. Students submit one application and are automatically matched with scholarships for which they qualify.
