A Lyerly man was cited on a marijuana possession charge following a traffic stop in Summerville, according to a Summerville Police Department incident report.

The report states that Officer B. Campbell was on routine patrol at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Monday, August 3, when he observed a black Toyota Tundra traveling southbound on Highway 114 at Given Street.

According to Campbell’s report, the driver performed what the officer described as an abrupt right turn onto Given Street. Campbell then initiated a traffic stop for an equipment violation.

The driver was identified as Tyson Reid Reynolds, 27, of Lyerly.

Campbell reported detecting the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle while speaking with Reynolds. According to the report, Reynolds told the officer there was marijuana in the vehicle.

Police said Reynolds reached into the front console area and removed two small glass jars and a plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.

According to the incident report, Reynolds admitted smoking marijuana earlier in the evening. Campbell reported that Reynolds did not appear less safe to operate a motor vehicle at the time.

The report states that Reynolds was issued a citation for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, less than one ounce, and was released at the scene. A friend was called to pick him up and provide transportation home.

The suspected marijuana was taken into evidence by the Summerville Police Department.

All charges and citations are accusations, and Reynolds is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
