The Internal Revenue Service is once again offering its Free File program for the 2026 tax season, giving millions of Americans a no-cost option to prepare and file their federal tax returns online.
The IRS says the nation’s 2026 tax filing season opens Monday, January 26, 2026, when the agency will begin accepting and processing 2025 federal income tax returns. Taxpayers have until Wednesday, April 15, 2026 to file and pay any taxes due.
