A stretch of unseasonably warm and dry weather is expected to continue across Chattooga County and the rest of northwest Georgia through the weekend and into early next week.
Forecasters say temperatures will steadily climb each day, reaching 10 to 15 degrees above average by the weekend, with highs pushing into the mid to upper 80s by Sunday. That’s about 15 to 20 degrees warmer than typical for late March.
Despite a weak cold front expected to move through the area Monday, rain chances remain very low, below 10 percent, meaning dry conditions will persist. Afternoon humidity levels are also expected to stay low, generally between 25 and 35 percent, which could increase fire danger across the region.
Through Saturday, skies will remain mostly clear with only some high clouds drifting across north Georgia. Overnight lows will stay mild, mainly in the low 50s, while daytime highs climb from the mid to upper 70s Friday into the low 80s Saturday.
Looking ahead, temperatures will cool slightly behind Monday’s front, with highs returning to the upper 60s to mid 70s by midweek. However, uncertainty remains regarding rain chances Wednesday into Thursday, with some forecasts suggesting light precipitation while others keep conditions dry.
With drought conditions already impacting much of northwest Georgia, the continued stretch of warm, dry weather could worsen conditions if meaningful rainfall does not arrive soon.
Residents are encouraged to use caution with outdoor burning and remain mindful of increasing wildfire risk.
