Mostly cloudy skies settled over Chattooga County this morning with temperatures around 65 degrees, and today’s weather will continue to feel unusually warm for late November. A few passing showers are possible, mainly during the morning hours, but most of the day will remain dry with clouds lingering and highs climbing into the mid-70s. Tonight will stay mild, with temperatures dipping only into the low 50s.
Sunday brings a break in the unsettled weather. Sunshine and a few passing clouds will make for a pleasant and less humid day, with highs near the upper 60s and overnight lows returning to the mid-40s. Monday will be calm and mostly cloudy, but importantly, it will remain dry—beneficial for anyone preparing for Thanksgiving or traveling early.
Conditions begin to change again on Tuesday as a more active weather pattern pushes into Northwest Georgia. Increased cloud cover and rising moisture levels will bring the likelihood of afternoon showers and a few thunderstorms. Some storms may produce gusty winds, especially in higher elevations and exposed ridgetops. Highs will settle in the mid-60s with lows in the mid-50s.
Wednesday’s forecast continues the trend toward unsettled weather. Morning showers and thunderstorms are possible before clouds dominate the remainder of the day. Temperatures will reach the lower 60s before dropping sharply into the 30s Wednesday night, signaling the arrival of cooler, drier air behind the mid-week system.
Weather Factors Affecting Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia
A broad area of warm, moist air has been sitting over the Southeast for several days, driven by southerly flow ahead of a developing storm system over the central United States. This warm air mass is responsible for temperatures running far above seasonal averages across Northwest Georgia. A series of weak disturbances passing through the region are bringing clouds and occasional light showers, contributing to the unsettled pattern.
By Tuesday and Wednesday, a stronger system moving out of the Plains will send a cold front toward Georgia. Increasing lift, higher humidity, and instability ahead of this front will produce the mid-week showers and thunderstorms expected across Chattooga County. Once the front passes, cooler and drier air from the north will push into the region, dropping temperatures noticeably by Wednesday night.
The combination of lingering warm air, approaching frontal systems, and elevated moisture levels will continue to shape our weather through mid-week.
