A noticeable warm-up is underway across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia, with springlike heat building Tuesday and daily rain chances settling in through the weekend.
Cloud cover lingering across the region has kept overnight temperatures mild, with readings mostly in the 50s and 60s early Monday morning. As a high-pressure system sits over the Atlantic, southeast winds will continue pulling moisture into the area, keeping skies mostly cloudy and temperatures on the rise.
By Tuesday, highs are expected to surge into the low 80s across much of Northwest Georgia — well above seasonal averages. This warming trend will continue through the week, with temperatures running 10 to 20 degrees above normal.
Rain chances will begin to increase Tuesday afternoon, with scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms developing. From Wednesday through the weekend, a more active weather pattern sets up, bringing daily opportunities for rain and storms across the region.
While widespread severe weather is not currently expected, forecasters say a few stronger storms cannot be ruled out if disturbances move through the warm and humid air mass.
The added moisture will also help reduce fire danger concerns in the coming days.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware as conditions remain unsettled through the end of the week.
