Chattooga Schools To Provide Meals While School Is Out

Chattooga County Schools will provide meals for their students during the school closure beginning Monday, March 16. Meals will be available for daily pick up at each Chattooga County school from 10 am – 12 noon M-F. There will be a drive thru area marked. Please stay in your vehicle and you will be given meals based on the number of children in your vehicle. Anticipate the possibility of a brief wait in line.

Kemp Declares Public Health Emergency

Gov. Brian Kemp has declared Georgia’s first ever public health emergency.   Kemp announced Saturday the classification aims to free up 100 million dollars in emergency funding to focus on tackling the coronavirus. There are now 64 confirmed cases in the state.

Summerville Says Low Springs Tested Free Of Contaminants

Summerville city officials received word on Friday that the Low Springs water supply has tested free of contaminants.  City of Summerville water customers served by Low Springs can use their water without any worries, according to City Manager Janice Galloway.  A map of the areas served by Low Springs is on display at Summerville City Hall.

Georgia DPH Reports 42 Confirmed Cases Of COVID-19

A map of Georgia shows the distribution of confirmed COVID-19 cases by county. The highest rates are 5-8 confirmed cases in each Fulton, Cobb, and Dekalb counties.

Georgia health officials confirmed the first coronavirus-related death in Georgia on Friday.  According to Governor Brian Kemp, a 67-year-old man has passed away after being diagnosed with COVID-19. He was hospitalized at WellStar Kennestone in Cobb County since testing positive on March 7.

SAT College Admission Testing Cancelled At Trion High School

The novel coronavirus, named this week as a pandemic by the World Health Organization, is upending plans for students around the world who were scheduled to take the SAT. The College Board is posting last-minute information about testing sites that have been shuttered because of the virus, including testing at Trion High School.  The school announced on Friday: “The SAT college admission test scheduled for March 14, 2020 at Trion High School has been cancelled due to increasing concerns about the COVID-19 outbreak.  College Board will contact students by email.” The SAT is a required part of the admissions materials students must submit at three out of four colleges in the U.S.

Georgia DNR Facilities OPEN Except For Isolated Section At Hard Labor Creek State Park

Officials with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources are reminding citizens that all DNR-managed properties are open and welcoming visitors during normal operating hours. These properties include state parks, lodges, historic sites, WMAs, PFAs, archery ranges, shooting ranges, education centers, golf courses, and battlefields, along with those not directly mentioned here that are under the management of DNR. In addition, all DNR administrative offices throughout the state are open and operating during normal business hours.
