Longtime judge, and veteran of World War II, The Honorable Harold Murphy passed away on Wednesday of this week. Judge Murphy came from very humble beginnings and was well respected by lawyers and judges across the state and around the nation.
Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton says her office will be closing at noon on Friday due to ongoing renovations. The Tax Commissioner posted the following message on Thursday afternoon:

Here is the latest arrest report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office for Thursday, December 29, 2022:
A Summerville woman reported a theft on McGinnis Street to the Summerville Police Department on Wednesday of last week. According to a report released this week by Summerville Police, Brenda Stoker told a responding officer that she had packed away several items in preparation to move away from the residence. The complainant said that she had placed all of her jewelry and some old coins in a “zipper bag”. Ms. Stoker had to be admitted to the hospital while she was preparing to move. When she returned from the hospital, the zipper bag was missing. The incident has been turned over to an investigator with the Summerville Police Department.

On Saturday, December 17th, over 100 guests attended the grand opening of the Walker County African American Museum and Cultural Center.
The opening was hosted by Alice Coven and Willie Davis, chairpersons of the Walker County African American Historical and Alumni Association Inc.’s (WCAAHAA) hospitality committee, and their committee consisting of Gail Ware, Malia Jones, Alma Benton, Vince Stalling, Aslyn Mackneugh, Eddie Foster, Connie Forrester, Robert Marsh and Assistant Museum Director Stacey Suttle. Furthermore, attendees not only included Walker County residents, but guests from Atlanta, Georgia; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Winston-Salem North Carolina and Bedford Ohio.
