Summerville Looking Towards A New Public Works Building

The City of Summerville is considering relocating the Public Works Department from downtown Summerville to property owned by the city off Highway 100.  The move is being considered because of extensive flood damage to the current building near Summerville City Hall.  At the most recent Summerville City Council meeting, council members heard cost estimates of around $150,000 to update and rewire the existing building.  With those costs, council members think it might be better to build a new building at land near the Summerville Industrial Park that is owned by the city.  Several offices would be consolidated into the new building.  The council has given the go-ahead to start looking into the costs of a new metal building to house the public works department.

COVID-19 Cases Up In Chattooga County

COVID-19 cases are up across Northwest Georgia, according to the latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Health.  The official numbers are released weekly on Wednesdays.  A new update will be issued tomorrow.  Last week, there were nine COVID-19 cases reported in Chattooga County.  That was up from three the previous week. Floyd County saw a jump from sixty-four cases the previous week to 108 cases this past week. Health officials think that numbers might rise even higher after the Holiday celebrations for Christmas and New Year.  Per CDC guidelines, individuals should stay up to date on their COVID vaccines, get tested if they have symptoms, and wear a mask if they have symptoms, a positive test, or COVID exposure. Those using public transport are also recommended to mask.
