Five contracts totaling nearly $11 million were awarded in July by Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for projects throughout Northwest Georgia. The projects are mainly focused on bridge maintenance and safety improvements.

Summerville Police responded to a call about an tractor-trailer that was not maintaining its lane on Highway 100 on Thursday morning. When officers stopped the truck driver, he began to shout and curse at the officers. Police said that the driver was irate and using vulgar language. Police advised the truck driver to calm down, at which point the man “just got louder” – according to a police report. Officers cuffed the truck driver and police said he continued to yell and curse all the way to the Chattooga County Jail. Fifty-two-year-old Oral Hill of Boise, Idaho was booked on disorderly conduct charges.
The Chattooga County Tax Assessors office is working their way through a massive, record-number of tax appeals, but Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton cannot send out 2023 property tax bills until they get either the number of tax appeals or the total value under appeal down to 8% of the over 3,000 that were filed.
Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson has announced that Georgia’s August unemployment rate was 3.3 percent, up one-tenth from a revised 3.2 percent in July. The unemployment rate was five-tenths lower than the national unemployment rate of 3.8 percent.
