Trion Splash Pad Closing September 11

The Town of Trion has announced that this will be the last weekend the Trion Splash Pad is open for this season.  The splash pad will be closing on Monday, September 11th.  The splash pad’s hours are 10 AM – 9 PM.

Police Respond To Hilltop Drive About Break-In

Summerville Police responded to a call on Hilltop Drive about a break-in on Saturday.  Police spoke with the complainant who said she was at her deceased father’s house doing some yard work when she noticed that the back door of the residence had been broken into.  The responding officer said that it appeared someone had used a blunt object to break the lock on the back door of the house.  Nothing appeared to be missing from inside the residence, according to a report from the Summerville Police Department.

Second Baptist Church Homecoming September 17th

The Second Baptist Church located at 65 Church Street in Summerville will be having a Homecoming service on Sunday September 17th at 3pm.  Lunch will be served at 2pm.  The special guest speaker will be Pastor Deshannon Davis of Saint Paul Baptist Church.

GSP Report On Wednesday Wreck On Highway 27 In Summerville

The Georgia State Patrol has released a preliminary report about an accident that snarled traffic on Highway 27 on Wednesday near Taylor’s Ridge in Chattooga County.  According to the Georgia State Patrol: On September 6th, 2023 Troopers were dispatched to a crash involving two vehicles that were traveling south on GA1 south of Kirby Hollow Road. Vehicle 1 failed to maintain his lane and struck Vehicle 2 in the left with its right. This impact forced Vehicle 2 off the roadway to the right where it overturned before landing back onto its wheels. Vehicle 2 came to a final uncontrolled rest off the east shoulder of GA1 facing west. Vehicle 1 was removed from the roadway prior to the investigating troopers arrival. Driver 2 was transported to Atrium Medical with minor injuries.

Woman Arrested On Marijuana Charges

A woman was charged for DUI for drugs after a traffic stop last week.  According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy on patrol on Holland-Chattoogaville Road noticed a car crossing the double line.  The deputy performed a traffic stop and the driver told the deputy that she was “out looking for driftwood”.  The deputy noticed the smell of marijuana and asked the woman if she had been smoking pot.  The woman admitted to smoking “two-to-three hours earlier”.  She also told the deputy that she was “still a little high”.   Lawonna Sue Johnson was arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of DUI for drugs, failure to maintain a single lane and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Floyd County Former Youth Minister Facing 40 Years In Prison

A twenty-six-year-old former youth minister is facing up to forty years in prison after pleading guilty to child molestation charges yesterday.  Austin Wray Perkins was the youth minister at Grace Fellowship Baptist Church when he was arrested and charged with felony child molestation and sexual exploitation of children.  According to reports at the time of his arrest, Perkins took the child in his home and molested the boy.  Graphic details of the case indicate that Perkins made videos of himself and the child performing sexual acts. Perkins was arrested in March of 2022 after an investigation by the Floyd County Police Department, the GBI and the U.S. Secret Service.  The court is waiting on the results of a psychosexual evaluation of Perkins before sentencing.
