A Dalton auto worker has won a million dollars in a Georgia Lottery game. 52-year-old Charles Shaw bought his winning ticket at a convenience store in Dalton. It was an instant game called 50-Times The Money. Shaw called the win unbelievable and says he has no immediate plans for the winnings.

The University of Illinois if offering a free, online class for private well owners with funding from the Environmental Protection Agency through a grant to the Rural Community Assistance Partnership. The course is intended to help homeowners understand and care for their water well.
The class is set up to be self-help over 10 weeks, with materials emailed once a week to participants. Well owners can sign up anytime, and though the first week will be sent on Jan 1, 2013, anyone signing up after that will start as soon as they sign up.
So, someone just finding out about this in April can sign up and start the class then. There are three webinars that will provide well owners a chance to reinforce what they are seeing in the class material and ask questions of the presenters.
Each webinar will be repeated every three months through August 2013, so no matter when someone starts the class, they will be able to see all three at least once.

A felony burglary was reported at a Bea Drive, Summerville, address on Tuesday. According to the report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office forced entry to the residence was made through a door leading from the garage, with so much force it busted the door, splintering the door casing and locks. The inside door trim also was broken off the wall and was lying on the floor just inside the doorway. The owner told deputies he and his wife had left just after 7 a.m. that day and didn't return home until just before 1 p.m. Items taken were valued at $430. according to the report. The burglary was turned over to investigators.
A Trion man has reported getting approximately 61 harrasing text messages from a Trion woman. The incident was reported to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. According to the report, the messages threatened to get the man's wife fired from her job, and talso hreatned bodily harm to the man. The man was told not to reply to the messages and contact the Magistrate Court office. The man also requested extra patrol for his residence and his wife's place of employment.
A Fort Oglethorpe City Councilman died after suffering an apparent heart attack while driving. Eddie Stinnett lost control of his vehicle early Wednesday morning on Battlefield Parkway and hit another car. The wreck happened less than 24-hours after Stinnett and three other Fort Oglethorpe council members voted to oust fellow councilman Charles Sharrock. That vote followed an emotional four-hour hearing Tuesday on sexual harassment charges against Sharrock.
Funeral arrangements have been made for a Calhoun newspaper publisher who won numerous Associated Press and Georgia Press Association awards.
The Rome News reports 63-year-old John Willis died Tuesday at his house in Rome.
The Floyd County Coroner says Willis died of natural causes and was pronounced dead around 1:15 a.m.
Before working as publisher of the Calhoun Times and editorial page director of the Rome News-Tribune, Willis served as editor for the Roman Record.
Willis worked with News Publishing Co. for 27 years. The company, based in Rome, publishes daily and weekly newspapers throughout Georgia.
Willis was born in Osaka, Japan and graduated from the Virginia Military Institute.
A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Rome First United Methodist Church.
