PSC Metals, Inc., in Rome reportedly has closed it's doors. According to the Coosa Valley News, corporate officials came to Rome on Wednesday and told employees that the business on Shorter Industrial Blvd. in west Rome was closing. PSC Metals is one of North Americ'as permier ferrous and non-ferous scrap processors. The Rome location is one of 49 facilities.

The Harbin Tony E. Warren Clinic Cancer Center will be sponsoring its Christmas Wreath Holiday Fundraiser to benefit the non-profit organization, Cancer Navigators, again this year. The Cancer Center has recruited many of the best and brightest creative minds in our community to design Christmas Masterpieces. The wreaths will be on display in the Harbin Clinic Tony E. Warren Cancer Center, located at 255 West Fifth Street, from now through November 21st. The public is invited to come view these wonderful wreaths, participate in the silent auction, and cast their vote for the People`s Choice Award.The Cancer Center is hosting a Christmas Wreath Open House this Saturday, November 10th, in conjunction with the Early Bird Cancer Walk from 8 a.m. until 12 noon.

Now that Georgia voters have approved a constitutional amendment affirming the state's authority to create special public schools, attention is shifting to putting the new policy in action.

Gov. Nathan Deal, House Speaker David Ralston and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle say their offices are already vetting potential nominees for a new charter school commission. Those three will submit names to the state Board of Education, which will choose the seven members.

The selection process will not begin officially until Jan. 1, when the law goes into effect.

The new commission will have the authority to grant charters for special state schools. Local school boards will still consider applications for local charter schools, though the commission can override them.

Saturday marked the first of what will be three days of Veterans Day commemorations across the United States.

The holiday falls on a Sunday, and the federal observance is on today.  It's the first such day honoring the men and women who served in uniform since the last U.S. troops left Iraq in December 2011.

It's also a chance to thank those who stormed the beaches during World War II – a population that is rapidly shrinking with most of those former troops now in their 80s and 90s.

At the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, a steady stream of visitors arrived Saturday morning as the names of the 58,000 people on the wall were being read over a loudspeaker.

In the Mojave Desert in California, veterans plan to resurrect a memorial cross that was part of a 13-year legal battle over the separation of church and state.

Thousands of spectators lined Fifth Avenue for New York City's Veterans Day Parade on Sunday.

A few hundred people attended a Veterans Day parade Saturday in downtown Atlanta and Cartersville held it's annual Veterans Day parade.

Locally, the Town of Trion held a ceremony for Veterans and erected flags around the track field as it does every year. The town of Menlo also put of American Flags honoring veterans.

All federal offices, including the post  post office will be closed today . Banks also will be closed today to mark the holiday as well as some local offices.

Whitfield and Murray County officials want to form a new regional joint development authority.

Murray County Sole Commissioner Greg Hogan passed a resolution calling for a JDA in his monthly meeting on Tuesday. And Whitfield County Board of Commissioners Chairman Mike Babb said that board will vote on a similar resolution when it meets on Monday.

Babb said, “It will have a seven-member board. Each county will appoint three members, and one will be jointly appointed.

Four Chattooga Countians arrested in neighboring counties in the past week.

Martin Randall Albert, of Dry Creek Road, Summerville, was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Friday. 27-year-old Albert was arrested by Floyd County Police charged with Theft by Taking.

 Harold Leanard Cochran of Watson Road, Trion, was booked into the Walker County Jail on Thursday. 21-year-old Watson was arrested on a felony probation violation warrant on Thursday.

Richard Shepard Archer Junior of East Broomtown Road, Trion, was arrested by authorities on Friday and booked into the Walker County Jail. 49-year-old Archer was charged with simple battery/family violence and a probation violation.

36-year-old Heather Sipsey, of Highway 151, Trion, was charged with a probation violation.  She was booked into the Walker County Jail on Wednesday. 

Shoppers turned out in full force at Lake Winnie Friday and Saturday for a Clearance Yard Sale. They were selling everything from old ride cars, to cash registers and food equipment. All of it  from the 88-year-old amusement park.

Charges are pending against an Atlanta woman involved in a Rome traffic fatality Tuesday. The accident took the life of 21-year-old Brooke Michelle Anthony of Armuchee.  The other two female drivers involved in the three-vehicle wreck were hospitalized at Floyd Medical Center, according to report. Reports indicate that 27-year-old  April Nichelle Gales, 27, of Atlanta, was the driver of a GMC cargo van, and Nina Nelson, 25, of Rome, was driving a Ford Explorer. Charges against Gales are pending, according to a Rome Police Department report. Nelson
reportedly suffers from two broken legs, broken rigs and a punctured lung and Gales reportedly has broken ribs, a punctured lung and a busted spleen. The wreck occurred on the bypass near Grizzard Park, closing traffic in the westbound lanes just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor said Anthony, of 480 Turkey Mountain Road, Armu­chee, was pronounced dead in the Floyd Medical Center Emergency Room at 5:30 p.m. that day.
