Rome Georgia Cares was already helping flood victims in Kentucky, but quickly mobilized to help flood victims in their neighboring county this week. The organization is a combined effort of several organizations in Floyd County and they have been sending needed supplies to flood victims in Chattooga County this week.

Several Chattooga County students were named to Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s Dean and President’s lists for the 2022 Summer Semester.

The flooding on Sunday in Chattooga County left a Berryton church underwater and church members say that while Berryton Bible Mission has insurance, they do not have flood insurance and the church will have to pay out of pocket for thousands of dollars worth of damage to the church building.

The football game between the Chattooga Indians and Coahulla Creek was moved earlier this week from Summerville to Whitfield County – and now the game is being moved from Friday night to Thursday night. J. Mark Turner, Chattooga High School Athletic Director says that due to the possibility of inclement weather on Friday evening, the decision has been made to move the game to Thursday night. Kickoff will be at 7:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $8. WZQZ will broadcast the game on 99.1 FM and AM 1180 and have live coverage on our Facebook Page.

Chattooga County Sheriff said there was a good ending to what could have been a very sad story. A toddler wandered off from his mother’s view around noon on Wednesday on Silver Leaf Trail off Silver Hill Road in the Gore Community. The mother was attempting to get a signal on her cell phone when she lost sight of the child. The boy was found about four hours later by a Georgia State Patrol aviation helicopter off the side of a road near Silver Hill Road. UPDATE 3:45 PM:
A toddler is missing in the Gore Community on Silver Hill Road. WZQZ News spoke with Chattooga County Chief Deputy Kevin Woods who said that search efforts are underway. The sheriff’s department received the call about the missing child shortly after noon today. Woods said that there are several agencies on the ground searching for a male child, under the age of two wearing a blue shirt. The chief deputy said that in addition to search efforts on the ground, the Georgia State Patrol aviation unit is in the area with a helicopter to aid in the search effort. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp were in Chattooga County on Wednesday to see the damage from the Labor Day Weekend Flood. The governor spoke with volunteers across the county and visited several flood relief sights, including North Summerville Baptist in Summerville and Central Avenue Baptist in Trion. The governor held a press conference in front of Summerville City Hall and spoke off-camera with WZQZ News.
