The Miss Chattooga County Pageant will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023. The deadline to enter the pageant is May 5th by 7 PM. Practice will be held on May 5th from 4:30 PM – 7 PM. Once again this year, the Chattooga County Young Farmers are selling Georgia-grown Vidalia Onions as a fundraiser. The onions are genuine, Georgia-grown Vidalia onions and will be shipped to Chattooga County in late April. The deadline to order onions is April 20th. Five pound bags are $8, ten pound bags are $12, twenty-five pound bags are $23 and fifty-pound bags are $40. Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden in Summerville, GA will host a May Artist Market on Saturday, May 6th from 11 am to 4 pm.
The Ducky Derby will be returning to downtown Summerville once again this year. Summerville Main Street has set the date for Saturday, May 13th. Race time will be at 1 Pm and their will be a cruise-in with North Georgia Cruisers from 10 AM – 2 PM. There will be a Ducky Derby Hat Contest with a $50 first place prize in adult and youth divisions. The event will also include arts and crafts, entertainment, food vendors and children’s activities. Mark the date – the Ducky Derby will be taking place May 13th.
A new farmers market is coming to Chattooga County this year. The Lyerly Farmers Market will be held each Saturday, starting June 3, 2023 from 8 AM until noon. Clean-up Day at Macedonia Cemetery in Teloga has been postponed until April 15th.
Donations in Chattooga County can be dropped off at 11574 Highway 27 in Summerville. They are the suite between the loan place and the Boys and Girls Club and someone will be there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am-5pm.
Chattooga County Extension Agent Rebecca Thomas has released the schedule for the 2023 Chattooga County Food Preservation Workshops. Workshops will cover a variety of home canning and food preservation topics. The cost is $25 per class and is limited to 15 people per class. Payment will secure your registration. The workshops will all be held at the Extension Office / Chattooga County Ag Building at 40 Middle School Road in Summerville.
