There’s Hope For The Hungry will be distributing food at the South Summerville Baptist Church this Wednesday February 15th from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Middle School Cheer Tryouts

A meeting for parents of middle school students interested in trying out for cheer leading will be held at the Leroy Massey Elementary School cafeteria on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 6 PM.  Tryouts for middle school cheer leading will be held Monday, March 20 – Friday, March 24 from 4:30 – 6:30 PM.  Students interested in cheer leading must have a current physical, 3 teacher recommendations and a copy of their insurance card.  If you have questions you can contact Coach Lacie Lea at llea@chattooga.k12.ga.us

Spring Sports Signup Ends February 18th

Spring sports registration is going on through February 18th for local Recreation Departments.   County residents pay a $25 registration fee at either the Summerville or Trion Recreation Departments.  The age control date for spring sports is September 1, 2023.  A copy of the child’s birth certificate needs to be on file.  If you need more information, you can contact the Trion Recreation Department at 706-734-2011 or the Summerville Recreation Department at 706-859-0910.

Historical Society Looking For High School Annuals

The Chattooga County Historical Society is helping the Chattooga County Public Library build a complete set of all annuals from schools located in Chattooga County.  The yearbooks will be placed in the Georgia Reference Room at the library in Summerville.  The Chattooga County Historical Society says that they have a good start on the collection, but still have missing years.  They need annuals from the 1950’s for Summerville High School and annuals from 1985 and beyond for Chattooga High School.  Also, they need annuals from the 1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s and a few of the 1980’s for Trion High School.  If you have annuals that you can donate, you are asked to take them by the Chattooga County Library, located at 360 Farrar Drive in Summerville.  The library is open from 9 AM – 6 PM on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, 9 AM – 8 PM on Thursday, 10 AM -2 PM on Saturday and is closed on Wednesday and Sunday.

Ms. Trion Pageant Next Month

The Miss Trion Pageant will be held next month on Saturday March 18th at 3 PM at the Trion High School Gym.  Any female student at Trion City Schools is eligible to enter.  The entry fee is $40 and the deadline to enter is March 7, 2023.  The Miss Trion Pageant is sponsored by the Pride of Trion Band Boosters.

Center Post Free Movie Night

Center Post Community Center will host a free movie night featuring Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown on Friday February 3, 2023 beginning at 7 PM EST. We will have ice cream sundaes available to purchase, as well as free Valentine themed door prizes that will be given away at the conclusion of the movie. Center Post Community Center is located at 8125 HWY 337 LaFayette, GA 30728. Everyone is invited to attend.

Local Republicans Meeting This Thursday

The Chattooga Republican Party will meet Thursday, February 2nd at 6 p.m. at the Chattooga County Senior Center. Plans are being made for the upcoming County Convention to be held in March and also the 14th District Convention which is scheduled for April and will be held here in Chattooga County, plus the State GOP Convention scheduled for May. All patriots are invited and encouraged to participate in these important events.

Menlo Lion’s Club Making Brunswick Stew Next Weekend

Menlo Lions Club will be making Brunswick Stew on Saturday, February 3, 2023  and pickup will be Saturday morning between 7 AM and 10 AM.  Price is $8 a quart or $30 a gallon. The stew sales helps the Menlo Lions Club give $500 scholarships to Chattooga High School students who are going off to college next fall.  The Menlo Lions Club also makes sure students who need glasses in our area receive them.  Contact Lee Majors at 706-862-2857 for more information.

Local Vietnam Veterans To Be Honored In March

March 29 is National Vietnam Veterans Day.  A community ceremony is being planned to honor all Vietnam veterans in the county, and officially present Honor Certificates and federal Department of Defense lapel pins to those Vietnam veterans who have not yet received them.
