Parking is an issue at the new Menlo Elementary School right now, but school officials say that the hot, dry weather we are having could make things better in the near future.

With temperatures expected to be in the high 90’s throughout the state for the next several days, and at times feeling like more than 100 degrees with the humidity, the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is urging Georgians to avoid prolonged exposure to the heat and sun, and to limit strenuous outdoor activity to prevent heat related illnesses.

The new Waffle House in Summerville is on schedule for opening in November or December of this year.


Last Friday, deputies were called multiple times to a Trion residence regarding domestic situations. According to a report from the sheriff’s office, deputies spoke with a woman at the residence who said that she and her husband had been quarreling.

Historically, the number of drunk driving arrests increases in the month of August. In Chattooga County there has been an increase in the number of arrests being made by state and local law enforcement for driving under the influence over the past three weeks.

The Chattooga Chamber will be holding a public meeting Wednesday August 30th at 10a at the Chattooga Civic Center to present a branding campaign to market the entire county as a cultural and outdoor recreation destination. After the presentation the public is invited to view the display boards and offer their opinions through a brief survey form which will be available throughout the entire day, until 5:30 PM.
