More Black Bear Sightings In The Area

Black bear sightings are getting more common in populated areas around Chattooga County.  Yesterday, a bear was spotted off of Highway 100 and a photo of the bear was shared widely on social media. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources says that while black bears have been in Northwest Georgia for many years, residents can expect more sightings as the bears are competing for space and being crowded out of more remote habitats.

Outdoor Painting Class At Paradise Garden

Outdoor guided painting sessions will be held at Paradise Garden, led by Summerville artist and Paradise Garden staff member, Donnie Davis. Upon arrival at each session, registrants will choose the location and subject of their paintings. Donnie will then share his strategy for starting paintings, laying out the composition, and provide guidance throughout the classes. At the end of the series, registrants will have three completed paintings of different perspectives of Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden. Man With Warrant Drives To Store And Gets Arrested

A man with an existing warrant was arrested Monday at a convenience store in Lyerly.  According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy saw thirty-year-old Cody Wayne Aycock pull into the parking lot of BJ’s Food Mart and had prior knowledge that the subject had an outstanding warrant.  When the deputy approached him, Aycock told the deputy that he had “just drove to the store”, but the deputy informed Aycock of the felony warrant and arrested him.  Aycock was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on charges of driving without a valid license, expired tag, probation violation and the outstanding warrant.

Chattooga Chamber: No Meetings In June Or July

The Chattooga Chamber of Commerce has announced that there will be no monthly luncheons during June and July.  The chamber says they are suspending the meetings during the busiest vacation months of the year.  The monthly luncheons will resume on the second Tuesday of each month beginning on August 15, 2023.   You can keep up with chamber activities on their website at www.chattoogachamber.org and on their Facebook Page.
