Music Lineup At Chattooga River Fest This Saturday

Chattooga River Fest is coming up this weekend in Trion and the third annual event is packed full of activities – and music!  This year, there will be music throughout the day starting with local talent that includes Daniel Buckner, Parker Thomas, the Zach Waller Band, Chip Rowland, Champagne Jam Session and The Mules. Then at 9 PM Atlanta Rhythm Section will be on stage.  River Fest Music is sponsored by Atrium Health Floyd, Guffin & Eleam Insurance, Georgia Power, Southeast First National Bank, North Georgia EMC and Dry Valley Baptist Church.  Don’t miss River Fest coming up this Saturday on the banks of the Chattooga River in Trion.

GSP Identifies Pedestrian Killed On I-75 This Past Weekend

Nichols Sentenced In Chattooga County Superior Court

A twenty-seven-year-old woman was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to go through a drug treatment program after appearing in Chattooga County Superior Court.  Haley Nichole Nichols had been charged with theft by receiving stolen property, financial transaction card theft and possession of methamphetamine.  Nichols has been arrested several times over the past two years on a variety of charges.  In February of this year, she was arrested for shoplifting at the Dollar Store on Commerce Street in Summerville.  Last year, Nichols was charged with criminal trespass after she was found hiding in a closet at an apartment in Summerville. She was also accused of shoplifting over $500 worth of merchandise from Bryant & Sons Lumber Company in September of last year.

 

Trion Youth Football Camp Coming In July

The Trion High School Football Team will be hosting the Trion Youth Football Camp coming up next month.  The event will be for youth ages 5-13 and will be held at Sam R. McCain Stadium in Trion.  The camp will be taught by Trion High School football players and coaches.  The dates for the youth football camp are July 19-21 and will begin at 6 PM each evening and go until 7:30 PM.  Parents can register their child on the first day of camp between 5 PM and 6 PM.  The fee is $30 and includes a camp t-shirt.  Payments should be made with cash or check.

 

Local Democrats Plan Annual Dinner

The Chattooga County Democratic Party is planning the 21st Annual Chattooga County Democratic Party Annual Dinner.  The event will be held on Saturday, July 15th at the Chattooga County Civic Center, located on Highway 48 in Summerville, across from Truist Bank.   U.S. Representative Nikema Williams will be the keynote speaker.   Williams, who represents the 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House, also serves as the chair of the Georgia Democratic Party.  Tickets for the event are $20 per person.

Menlo City Council Meeting This Evening

The Menlo City Council will hold their regular meeting for the month of June coming up this evening at Menlo City Hall, located at the intersection of Highway 48 and Highway 337 in Menlo.  The council meeting will get underway at 6 PM.  The public is welcome to attend.

Local Fire Departments Train For Crash Victim Extrication

A crash victim extrication training event was recently held for Chattooga County fire departments.  The training was hosted by the Trion Fire Department and was taught by instructors from the Georgia Public Safety Training Center.  The training was funded by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.  The sixteen-hour course was held over a period of two days.  Twenty-four firefighters from Chattooga County completed the training course.  Fire Departments that participated in the training included: Trion, Telgoa, Catoosa, Hays, Lyerly, Menlo and Cloudland. Trion Scrap Metal provided vehicles for the training course.

From Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader:  Please be aware that we will be conducting law enforcement training this week at Chattooga High School. Please do not be alarmed if you see an increased law enforcement presence this week. All is well, school is out and the use of the building allows us to train better and be prepared for emergencies, should one arise.
