


UPDATE: Floyd County Police say there was “no credible threat” at Armuchee High School today. WZQZ will have more in the news on Thursday.
The Rome News Tribune is reporting that Armuchee High School was evacuated this afternoon (Wednesday) due to a “potential threat”. Floyd County Police and the Georgia State Patrol were on the scene. We will have more information as it becomes available.

Summerville Police arrested a thirty-two-year-old man on Saturday after he caused a disturbance and broke a window and a chair at a Peppermint Place residence. Police say that when they arrived on the scene, Cody Lee Vickers was standing outside the residence with no clothes on. Police instructed Vickers to put some clothes on. Vickers complied and returned outside and police arrested him, charging him with disorderly conduct.

A rule change is proposed by leaders of the Georgia Republican Assembly (GRA), a conservative faction that seems to dislike more moderate Republicans. Nathaniel Darnell, a GRA leader, recently addressed the state Constitution Party vilifying candidates if the most conservative members deem them to be insufficiently conservative or a “traitor” to the party.

Mother’s Day is coming up, and along with it, the purchase of special gifts. The National Retail Federation (NRF) survey shows families plan to spend more on Mother’s Day this year than in the past. Flowers, jewelry, and special outings are hot items this year, and 84% plan to celebrate, according to the NRF. A thirty-seven-year old man was arrested over the weekend after he was found at an address on Susie Lane and had been previously warned not to go there. According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, Buddy Allan Rooker walked into the garage at the location and sat down and refused to leave. When police arrived on the scene, they arrested Rooker and charged him with loitering and prowling and also charged him with probation violation. Rooker was on probation after being charged with battery and and simple battery.

As a result of a proactive online undercover investigation coordinated by the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit (CEACC), and the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations, 12 people were arrested over a three-day period beginning Thursday, May 4, 2023.
