Several eighth-grade students at Saddle Ridge Elementary and Middle School in Walker County were hospitalized after consuming a substance called Kratom. School officials reported that emergency crews responded quickly and all students are now stable. Kratom, which has stimulant and opioid-like effects, is not approved by the FDA and poses serious health risks.

A woman from Floyd County was tricked in an unusual extortion scheme where a scammer made her believe she needed to film herself taking a shower for a spiritual cleansing ritual. The police stated that the victim lost $1,500 after the scammer used her beliefs and then threatened to share the video.
