Another day of dangerous late-summer heat is expected across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia today, with temperatures climbing well into the 90s and heat index values reaching the triple digits.

The National Weather Service says a Heat Advisory is in effect for far Northwest Georgia from 1 PM until 8 PM today. High pressure over the Southeast is producing unusually hot temperatures while keeping rain chances very low.

In Chattooga County, look for sunny skies and a high near 96 today, with a heat index as high as 103. Across portions of Northwest Georgia, heat index values could climb as high as 107 degrees.

Tonight will be mostly clear with a low around 74.

Thursday brings another sunny and hot day with a high near 96 and a heat index around 103. Friday stays sunny with a high near 94.

The heat continues into the weekend. Saturday will be sunny with a high near 95, along with a 30 percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Sunday brings a 20 percent chance of afternoon storms and a high near 93.

Some relief arrives by Labor Day, although temperatures will remain above normal. Monday will be mostly sunny with a high near 90 and a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Forecasters say temperatures across the region are running well above normal, with some areas of North Georgia as much as 12 to 15 degrees warmer than typical for early September.

With triple-digit heat index values expected this afternoon, residents should limit prolonged outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of fluids and never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.
