A Dalton woman who overcame homelessness, financial hardships and the challenges of raising two children as a single mother has been selected to represent Georgia Northwestern Technical College at a statewide adult education competition next year.
Georgia Northwestern Technical College is offering an opportunity for adults to earn their GED in just three days at no cost through an accelerated program coming up in October.
The program will be held October 15-17 at GNTC’s Whitfield Murray Campus, located at 2310 Maddox Chapel Road in Dalton.
Participants who qualify will receive free GED instruction, free practice tests and free GED testing, along with free meals and snacks during the three-day program.
Pre-registration is required by September 16, and space is limited. Those registering must also attend an assessment session on either September 19 or September 24.
The program is available to adults 18 and older, and a government-issued ID is required. GNTC notes that not every applicant will qualify for the accelerated three-day program, but other learning options are available for those who do not.

Adults age 55 and older will have an opportunity to continue learning, explore new interests and connect with others through the Fall 2026 Senior Scholars program at Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum.
The continuing education program, established in 1994, offers a variety of courses, lectures and special tours led by Berry College faculty and local experts.
This fall’s semester will feature more than 30 offerings covering history, literature, technology, the arts, wellness and local culture.
Participants will be able to explore topics ranging from the Declaration of Independence and the global response to the Holocaust to ballroom dancing, pickleball, mindfulness, creative writing and digital design using Canva.
Senior Scholars is designed to provide lifelong learning opportunities while also encouraging personal enrichment and community connections among participants.
The program is offered through Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum and Berry College.

Georgia Northwestern Technical College will waive application fees next week for students planning to enroll for the 2026 fall semester.
GNTC will host a Free Application Week from Monday, June 29, through Sunday, July 5. During that time, the college will waive the regular $25 application fee for all incoming students. Applicants will not need a special code to receive the fee waiver.
The admissions deadline for the fall semester is August 4, and fall classes are scheduled to begin August 17.

Twenty-nine students received their High School Equivalency diplomas this week through the Youth Success Academy at Georgia Northwestern Technical College.
Georgia Northwestern Technical College is offering a free GED Accelerated Academy this summer at the Floyd County Campus in Rome.
The three-day program is scheduled for June 4th through June 6th, 2026, and is designed to help eligible students earn their GED at no cost.
Participants will receive free GED instruction, practice tests, GED testing, meals, and snacks. Space is limited, and registration is required by May 12th.
Those who register must also attend one of two assessment dates: May 16th or May 21st.
