The Chattooga County Animal Shelter is inviting the community to help support local dogs through a new “Adopt a Kennel” sponsorship program. The program is open to businesses, individuals, classrooms, families, and anyone who wants to help, offering a direct way to support the shelter and the animals in its care.
Earlier it was reported that the Chattooga County Animal Shelter was at full capacity and was not taking in animals. WZQZ News has been notified that information is incorrect. The shelter is operating normally at this time. Area residents are still encouraged to consider adopting animals from the Chattooga County Animal Shelter.
The Walker County Animal Shelter is partnering once again with the BISSELL Pet Foundation to bring holiday cheer to homeless pets. The shelter is one of 300 locations across the country taking part in the Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope adoption event, running December 1st through 15th.
Many Chattooga County residents are welcoming the appointment of Charlie Long as the new Animal Control Director, but several are also expressing concerns about recent decisions announced by Commissioner Andy Allen regarding shelter operations and public access to adoptable animals.
