Election Day Is Tuesday In Chattooga County

Election Day for the May 19, 2026 General Primary and Nonpartisan General Election is tomorrow in Chattooga County.

Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 AM until 7 PM. Voters are reminded that they must go to their assigned Election Day polling location, not the Registrars Office.

According to the Chattooga County Board of Elections, 1,301 ballots were cast during Advance Voting, which has now ended.

As of Saturday, May 16, at 7:30 AM, 53 absentee by mail ballots had been issued. Of those, 42 had been accepted and 11 remained outstanding. The deadline to submit an application for an absentee by mail ballot has passed.

Voters will be required to show a government-issued photo ID when checking in to vote. Those voting in person will also be asked to select a Democratic, Republican, or Nonpartisan ballot.

Highland Avenue In Summerville To Close For Ongoing Sewer Project

The City of Summerville has announced a temporary closure on Highland Avenue due to an ongoing sewer project.

Highland Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Monday, May 11th through Friday, May 15th, between East First Avenue and Sixth Avenue. The closure will be in effect daily from 7:00 AM until 8:00 PM.

Residents and businesses within the closure area will still have access to their properties, but minor delays should be expected.

Motorists are advised to use Highway 27 northbound and southbound as the primary alternate route during the closure.

Chattooga County Accepting Bids for New Truck Purchase

Chattooga County Commissioner Andy Allen is currently accepting sealed bids for the purchase of a new truck, according to a recent request for bids notice.

Officials are seeking a 2026 or newer Ford F-150 4×4 Crew Cab XLT or equivalent, with specific equipment and performance requirements outlined in the bid documents. The vehicle will be used for county operations and must meet detailed specifications, including engine size, transmission, and additional features.

Bids must be submitted to the Chattooga County Commissioner’s Office, located at 10102 Commerce Street in Summerville, by 5 p.m. on May 7.

All bids must be clearly marked and include required documentation such as total cost, vehicle specifications, and estimated delivery date.

The bids will be publicly opened at 10 a.m. on May 8, 2026.

City Of Summerville Seeking Bids For Outdoor Basketball Court Pavilion

The City of Summerville is accepting sealed bids for the construction and installation of an outdoor basketball court clear-span pavilion.

Bids will be received at Summerville City Hall, located at 120 Georgia Avenue, until 10:00 AM on May 22, 2026. Bids will be opened the same day at 10:00 AM in the City Hall Council Room.

The project is listed as RFB-2026-123 Outdoor Basketball Court Pavilion. All bids must be submitted in sealed envelopes with the project name clearly marked on the outside.

City officials say bids must remain valid for 60 business days, and late submissions will not be accepted. The bid will not be awarded until designated city officials have had time to review each submission.

The City of Summerville is now accepting sealed bids for the purchase of a new mini excavator.

According to an official Request for Bid, submissions will be accepted until 2:00 p.m. on May 6, 2026, at Summerville City Hall, located at 120 Georgia Avenue. Bids will be opened publicly at that time in the Council Room.

Officials say all bids must remain valid for 60 business days and must be submitted in a sealed envelope clearly marked “RFB-2026-125-New Mini Excavator.” Any bids received after the deadline will not be considered.

City leaders note they are not responsible for delays caused by postal or delivery services. The contract will be awarded after city officials have had time to review all submissions.

Teloga Fire Department to Conduct Fire Hydrant Testing This Evening

Residents in the Teloga area are being advised of possible temporary low water pressure this evening as the Teloga Volunteer Fire Department conducts scheduled fire hydrant testing.

Testing is planned for this evening (Monday, April 20, 2026) from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Officials say water customers may notice a drop in pressure during that time, but normal service is expected to resume by 8:00 p.m.

The testing is part of routine efforts to help ensure fire hydrants are working properly and ready when needed.

Residents are asked for their patience and understanding during the testing period.

Walker County Tax Office in Rock Spring Closed Through Thursday After Water Damage

The Walker County Tax Commissioner’s Office in Rock Spring will remain closed to the public through Thursday, April 23, following water damage caused by a burst pipe.

County officials say the Rossville office, located at 2012 McFarland Gap Road, will be open with extended hours to help serve residents while the Rock Spring location is closed.

The Rossville office will operate from 6:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and officials say six fully staffed service windows will be available to accommodate the public.

Residents needing tax office services are encouraged to visit the Rossville location until the Rock Spring office reopens.

A Walker County government building in Rock Spring is closed today following significant water damage caused by a pipe burst overnight.

Officials say the Local Government Services building, located at 122 Highway 95, experienced flooding that impacted several offices and public areas.

The closure affects multiple departments housed in the building, including the tag and tax office, assessor’s office, planning and zoning, and code enforcement.

Residents needing services are advised that the Walker County Tax Commissioner’s office in Rossville remains open.

There is no word yet on when the Rock Spring facility will reopen as crews work to assess and address the damage.

Summerville City Offices To Close Early Friday

All City of Summerville administrative offices will close early on Friday, April 17, at 11:00 AM so staff can attend an Employee Appreciation Lunch.

City officials say the early closure is intended to recognize the hard work and dedication of city employees.

Normal office hours will resume on Monday, April 20.

Residents needing to make utility payments can still do so through the drop box, online portal, or automated phone system while offices are closed.

Officials also remind the public that in the event of an emergency, they should call 911.

The City of Summerville thanked residents for their understanding and support.
