Craigslist Deal Turns to Disaster

A Rome couple recently found out the $42,872.57 check they’d been given for their 2014 Dodge Ram wasn’t any good because the account had been closed.

According to Floyd County police records, a Rome woman told Floyd County Police that she, her husband and her son went to a Loves truck stop in Steele, Alabama on Sept. 28 to meet the person who wanted to buy the truck.

She called the bank to make sure the check was good, and the bank verified, it but when she went to cash the check the account had already been closed.

The person who gave them the check is being accused of felony theft by deception.

Lafayette Parks & Rec Director Let Go

LaFayette has terminated a long-time employee who headed their parks & rec department for several years.  According to council member Chris Davis the release of parks and rec director Patti Scott was determined around 1 p.m. on Tuesday of this week (Nov. 10).

That same day, Davis learned of Scott’s dismissal from city manager David Hamilton.

Davis said Scott’s termination was not based on something she did wrong.

Hamilton said the decision to release Scott was not an easy one to make and was based on a need for change at the recreation department — not on a knee jerk reaction.

Hamilton said that a lot of consideration went into the decision, but he refused to discuss the matter further.
