New Salem Fest Continues Through Today

The 38th annual New Salem Mountain Festival continues through today (Sunday). The festival began on Saturday. About 100 artists and craftsmen are on hand. There will also be entertainment and door prizes. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Parking is free. Admission is $5 for adults with children 11 and younger free. Proceeds will benefit the New Salem Community Center atop Lookout Mountain between LaFayette and Trenton on Highway 136. 

Summerville’s Art In Park A Success

A good turnout Saturday for Summerville's Art in the Park event at Dowdy Park. It's all part of the Steam Into Summerville Railroad Days 2012.Fifteen vendors signed up for the event, according to Better Hometown Committee Director Sylvia Kaziah. There were on hand with jewelry, hand-made soap, and other arts and crafts, food, children's activities. Also, 175 train passengers traveled by steam engine  from Chattanooga to Summerville, ane were greeted by local officials and representatives of the City of Summerville, as well as local residents.  An exhibit of local art of the Rev. Howard Finster was featured at the Depot. The Paradise Garden Foundation had booths set up at the Depot and Dowdy Park selling tee shirts and art. Steam Into Summerville events continue through the first weekend in November with the BBQ, Stew & Chili Cook-Off on October 20; Farm Day on October 27; and the North Georgia Cruiser's Cruise In on November 2. All of the events are at Dowdy Park.
