A Chattanooga man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of a Walker County resident.

Last week, Chattooga County Sole Commissioner Andy Allen released the county government’s 2024 audit. The audit covers the final year that former Commissioner Blake Elsberry was in office and points to serious problems in the county’s bookkeeping and financial oversight.

Ms. Lori Gwendolyn Patterson, age 63, of Menlo, GA, died Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Advent Redmond Hospital.
Ms. Patterson was born April 19, 1963, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late James Samuel Goodridge and Shirley Jo Pritchett Goodridge. She was a member of Menlo First Baptist Church. Ms. Patterson was a retired warehouse worker with Showa- Best. Lori was the best mother and nana ever and loved her grandchildren with everything within her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Sammy Goodridge; sister, Patty Snead; and father-in-law, Cecil Parris.
Survivors include her sons, Yancey (Rachel) Parris, Austin (Shawna) Patterson; sister, Beverly (Mike) Wilson, Angie Benton, and Carolyn Ervin; grandchildren, Christian (Tianna) Parris, Bella Parris, Brantley Patterson, Dallas Patterson, and Memphis Patterson; and mother-in-law, Polly Parris
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 13, 2026, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Matthew Willingham officiating. Interment will follow in Ami Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Yancey Parris, Austin Patterson, Christian Parris, Tyler Vanhorn, Aaron McCullough, Heath Wilson and Ricky Sumner. Honorary pallbearers will be Micah Maddux and Toy Freeman.
Ms. Patterson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Saturday.

MS. SUZIE JULIETTE PRICE ECHOLS – Age 78, of Summerville, GA passed away Friday, June 5, 2026. Suzie was born November 10, 1947 to her late parents, John Alfred Price, Sr. and Edith Mae Moore Reese. She was a graduate of Summerville High School Class of 1967 and Shorter College. Suzie was employed by DFACS and later retired from Mohawk Industries. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Cleveland, TN, and later moved her membership to Second Baptist Church, Summerville, GA. Suzie loved attending church, eating at various restaurants, and traveling the country.
Suzie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ann Scott , Brenda Lawrence, Carolyn Covington, and Jeri Price; and grandson, Actavious Thompson.
Those left to cherish Suzie’s memories are her beloved children; Pretreache Price, Lisa (Wardell Sims) Heflin, and James (Joy Sherow) Echols, Jr., Precious (Aaron) Echols Vinson; grandchildren, Brooklyn (Ashley) Price, DaNarius Kirby, Ashleigh Heflin, Kristen (Katrina) Cooper, Devonte Henson, J’nae (Curtis) Fletcher, Rakim Powell, Areona (Amanda)Vinson; two great grandchildren, Kiara Powell and Ariya Smith; brother, John Alfred (Angela) Price, Jr.; sister, Toni (Cameron) Christopher; brother-in-law, Clarence Lawrence; aunt, Janie Harris, Dale Penn,and Jessma Covington; uncles, Johnny Moore and Richard Moore; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Homegoing Celebration will be Friday, June 12, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at Second Baptist Church, 65 Church St, Summerville, GA 30747, with Pastor Tripp Cooper, Eulogist. The family will receive extended family and friends at the church an hour before the service. Interment, Summerville City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Willis Funeral Home, Inc., Dalton, GA.
