The Tron Fire Department is emphasizing the significance of these pre-plans and noted that they are actively trying to complete them. If they haven’t visited a location yet, they are committed to finishing the remaining updates soon. Residents are encouraged to ask questions or set a time for updates, as the department prioritizes community safety. They invite residents to take this chance to improve safety measures for their properties. Community Recourse Center of Chattooga County announced a warming station is open due to the extreme cold weather.  The center opened on Sunday night and will remain open through Thursday morning at 10 AM. Anyone wishing to stay at the warming station should arrive by 10 PM. There will be no entry after 10 PM. CRC Chattooga says, “If you or someone you know needs a place to come in to get out of the bitter cold then you are welcome to come”. The warming center is located at 172 Farrar Drive in Summerville – the building just past Chattooga EMA/911.

Law enforcement officials have arrested two men from Murray County believed to be involved in a burglary that occurred in Summerville. Clifton Mitchell, 66, and his son, Richard Mitchell, 41, were apprehended by LaFayette Police on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, following a collaborative investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.  Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader said that these are the same two men that local investigators believe were part of a burglary at a Summerville business located in the shopping plaza behind Little Caesar’s Pizza.

State Senator Colton Moore was arrested in Atlanta after causing a disturbance at the State House of Representatives and is now being supported by the Chattooga County Republican Party. On January 16th, during Governor Brian Kemp’s State of the State Address, Moore was barred from entering and subsequently arrested by Georgia State Troopers.  Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns had banned Moore from the House of Representatives after a speech Moore made in March 2024 that criticized the late Speaker David Ralston.

In a strategic move to bolster their pitching roster, the Atlanta Braves announced on Friday that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Amos Willingham off waivers from the Washington Nationals. The decision follows the Braves designating fellow right-handed pitcher Allan Winans for assignment.
