A Cooper Road, Summerville woman was arrested by Summerville City Police on Saturday for driving under the influence of alcohol.  According to a report released Monday by the police department, a “Be On The Lookout” was issued for a vehicle that was swerving in the roadway.  Officers stopped twenty-six-year-old Brianna Taylor Mullican on Commerce Street and could see immediately that she was under the influence of alcohol.  Mullican admitted to drinking “two hours” prior to driving.  However, officers found an open bottle of Jack Daniels Whiskey under the driver’s seat of the vehicle.  Mullican was charged with DUI and having an open container of alcohol and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Georgia gas prices increased slightly at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.25 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 3 cents more than a week ago, 5 cents more than a month ago, and 11 cents more than this time last year.

On October 7th, Trion Police Chief David Gilleland issued a press release saying the speed bumps on Deforest Avenue and Allgood Street were being removed by the Town of Trion.  Gilleland says that the Town of Trion was notified by the Georgia Department of Transportation that the speed bumps were in violation of DOT guidelines.  Those speed bumps aren’t the only ones that will be removed.  The local paper reported that the police chief told the town council that speed bumps near Mount Vernon Mills will also be removed because they violate DOT height and width requirements.  Gilleland is reminding motorists that the intersection at Deforest and Allgood is now a four-way stop.

Last week, a man was arrested at a checkpoint according to a report released by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.  Deputies say that they were conducting the safety checkpoint at the intersection of Ridgeway Drive and Old Justice Road when a 2019 Nissan pulled up.  Deputies asked the driver if he had his license.  The driver said that he didn’t have his license on his person.  The deputies asked the driver if his license was valid, to which the driver replied “they should be”.  It turns out, the driver’s license had been suspended for over a year on a failure to appear charge.  Billy Robinson was arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of driving on suspended or revoked license.

The DeKalb County, Alabama Sheriff’s Office is looking for any information about a missing teen from Valley Head, Alabama.  Nineteen-year-old Makenna Joy Purvis was last seen on September 26th in the Valley Head area.  The teenager was once an employee at Lucky’s Supermarket in Menlo, here in Chattooga County.  She is 5-feet, six-inches and weighs about 100 – 120 pounds.  Makenna has red hair and hazel eyes.  Anyone who has any information about her disappearance or whereabouts, is asked to contact an investigator with the DeKalb County, Alabama Sheriff’s Office at 256-845-3801 or call 911.
