Earlier this month, on February 4th, Chattooga County Sheriff’s Corporal Nicole Flood was headed to work early in the morning and heard reports of a man trying to carjack vehicles that were stopped in traffic. A man, later identified as twenty-seven-year-old Darell Thomas of Detroit, Michigan attempted to carjack several different vehicles along Highway 27. Thomas was observed trying to carjack vehicles near the Circle K on Commerce Street, the Family Dollar Store in Summerville and another near Little Caesar’s Pizza. Flood found Thomas running northbound on Highway 27 and gave him verbal commands to stop and show his hands. At one point, Thomas lunged towards Flood’s sheriff’s truck, but he was quickly detained and arrested. Thomas was charged with two counts of entering an automobile, motor vehicle carjacking and assault and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
