MR. CHARLES EDWARD PADGETT, age 66, of Resaca, Georgia, formerly of Chattooga County, passed away Saturday evening in Dalton, Georgia hospital. Mr. Padgett was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on October 10, 1955, a son of the late Dewey William and Mary Josephine Gentry Padgett. He was retired truck driver for DMI corporation.
The February 2022 monthly meeting of the Walker County Historical Society will be held on Sunday, February 27, 3:00 pm. In recognition of African-American History Month, the program topic will be recent discoveries in Walker County History related to African Americans.The discussion will be led by Ms. Beverly Mitchell Foster, local historian and authority on history in the local African American community. The public is invited to this meeting which will be a joint meeting with the Walker County African American Alumni and Historical Association. On Zoom. State Rep. Eddie Lumsden released his weekly legislative report on Monday. Lumsden said that the legislature passed a bill to amend the state budget, due to the fact that Georgia saw almost $2 billion more in revenue last year than originally anticipated. Lumsden said that the extra funds will go towards the state’s aging infrastructure and workforce needs. The bill also looks to restore $383 million funding to the state’s educational system. Georgia gas prices continue to increase at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia motorists are now paying an average price of $3.33 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. Monday’s state average is 9 cents more than a week ago, 22 cents more than last month, and $1.01 more than this time last year.
