The holiday magic is returning to downtown Calhoun as the Friends of Calhoun’s GEM Theatre announce a full lineup of free Christmas movies throughout December. The theatre, one of the region’s most beloved historic landmarks, will welcome families from Northwest Georgia to enjoy classic holiday favorites at no cost.
The U.S. Postal Service has officially launched this year’s Operation Santa, a long-running holiday program that connects children and families in need with generous volunteers willing to “adopt” their letters to Santa and help make Christmas a little brighter.
Santa will be making a special visit to Leroy Massey Elementary School on Sunday, November 30th. The event runs from 3 until 6 p.m., and families are asked to park in the back parking lot. Admission is five dollars per child, or ten dollars total for families with multiple children. Kids can enjoy holiday hot chocolate, festive cookies, and a make-and-take ornament craft. Parents should bring a phone or camera to take pictures with Santa. That’s Santa at LMES on Sunday, November 30th from 3 to 6 p.m.
The Father’s Heart Café is inviting the community to come together today for its 3rd Annual Thanksgiving in the Park, taking place at noon at Dowdy Park. The event is open to everyone and aims to provide a warm holiday meal while fostering fellowship and community spirit.

Firefighters responded to a house fire Sunday afternoon in the Pennville community after a 911 call reported flames at 99 Railroad Circle shortly before 4 p.m. Crews arrived quickly and were able to bring the fire under control, but the home sustained significant damage.
If you felt a little rumble early this morning, you weren’t imagining things. A small earthquake was recorded just north of Chattooga County, in neighboring Walker County. While it’s not something we feel every day, minor quakes like this do occasionally happen in northwest Georgia.

wo people were transported to the hospital following a serious accident Friday afternoon on Penn Bridge Road. Emergency crews from Atrium Health Floyd EMS, the Trion Fire Department, and local law enforcement responded after an SUV left the roadway and struck a tree head-on.
A third person at the scene refused treatment.
Authorities have not yet released additional details about the cause of the crash or the conditions of those transported.
