Residents across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia are facing a double dose of winter weather as a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a Cold Weather Advisory from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday.

Northwest winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, are expected through Sunday evening. The strong winds could blow around unsecured outdoor items, bring down tree limbs, and cause isolated power outages. Drivers — especially those operating high-profile vehicles — are urged to use extra caution due to difficult travel conditions.

As the winds continue overnight, much colder air will settle into the region. The Cold Weather Advisory warns that wind chills could range from around 10 degrees above zero to a few degrees below zero early Monday morning. These dangerously cold conditions can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure, particularly for those without adequate winter clothing.

Officials recommend limiting time outdoors during the advisory period and wearing layers, hats, and gloves if travel is necessary. Residents should also ensure pets are brought indoors and check on elderly neighbors and those without reliable heat.

The advisory covers much of north and central Georgia, including Northwest Georgia communities such as Summerville, Trion, Menlo, Lyerly, and surrounding areas.

Stay weather-aware and continue monitoring local updates as conditions evolve.
