Residents across Chattooga County can expect improving weather conditions Sunday as the remnants of Post-Tropical Cyclone Isaias continue moving away from Northwest Georgia following Saturday’s heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm damage.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 30 percent chance of showers Sunday, mainly before 9 AM. Otherwise, skies will remain mostly cloudy, with a high temperature near 72 degrees. West winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour could produce gusts as high as 25 miles per hour.
The remnants of Isaias brought significant weather impacts to the region Saturday, including downed trees, damaged power lines, flooding and road closures in Chattooga County. Although the storm system is moving away, residents should remain cautious around damaged trees, utility lines and areas where standing water may remain.
Sunday night will bring partly cloudy skies and a low around 55 degrees, with winds becoming calm during the evening.
Warmer, Drier Weather Returns For The Workweek
The National Weather Service says a much quieter weather pattern is expected across Northwest Georgia beginning Monday.
Columbus Day will feature mostly sunny skies and a high near 84 degrees, followed by clear skies Monday night and a low around 56.
Temperatures will continue climbing Tuesday through Thursday, with mostly sunny to sunny skies and afternoon highs reaching 87 to 88 degrees. Overnight lows will generally remain in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
Forecasters say high pressure will bring dry air into the Southeast, allowing temperatures to climb well above typical mid-October levels. Afternoon heat index values could return to the 90s by the middle of the week as moisture gradually increases.
Friday is expected to remain sunny, with a high near 83 degrees.
Cooler Weather Possible Next Weekend
A significant change in the weather pattern could arrive next weekend as forecast models indicate the possibility of a strong cold front moving southward into the region.
Saturday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a much cooler high near 69 degrees, compared with temperatures in the upper 80s earlier in the week.
The National Weather Service says the potential cold front could bring more seasonable fall temperatures back to Northwest Georgia following several days of late-summer warmth.
For now, the forecast indicates a return to dry weather and sunshine as Chattooga County continues recovering from Saturday’s storm.
